It was always announced as a Netflix title outside of the US but before today it was always said late January, this is the first a concrete date’s been announced. I also like how Netflix said it’s coming soon to the US when all A24 films go to Amazon Prime in the states.
This movie is too much for old people. My grandfather actually is an academy member, and his sensibilities tend to line up with how things go with the Oscars. He couldn't finish Uncut Gems because he hated Sandler's character. I should have sensed this was coming last year when on Christmas he walked in raving about Green Book.
Have not spoken to him about this yet. But I'll def try and find out. What I do know so far - He thought Ford V Ferrari was 30 minutes too long, but on the flipside enjoyed spending 3 hours with Martin Scorsese for The Irishman
Me. The Irishman was a slog. Predictable too if you've ever seen a Scorsese film. That short is great though.
Criticizing a Scorsese film for being predictable is funny. I don’t feel like I’ve ever watched one of his movies hoping for some big reveal
Sandler's "Goldman" does the same robot dance he does in Airheads when he goes out to see if the cops are there for The Lone Rangers and I'm here for it. Also Airheads is a better movie than the Irishman don't fuckin' talk to me
Rex:I'm not scared, Pip. Come on. Pip: I'm gonna stab your heads off! Rex:With what? With what? Pip: With my DICK! Rex: Yeah! Pip: Yeah! And blood's gonna come out of your head! And there's nothing you can do about it! Cause I'm a MAD MAN! Heh heh. also, it took my 15 years to realize Airheads is a parody of Dog Day Afternoon
I was actively bored for like 85% of The Irishman, I still can't believe I got through it in one sitting Mafia movies just aren't for me for the most part though
Where’d all this Irishman slander come from? Isn’t there a bad takes thread on here you can post to instead?
The plot is usually secondary in Scorsese films. It is about the moments; Jake LaMotta beating the walls in the prison, Tommy's "you think I'm funny?", the drug-filled party at Jordan's house, the call to Hoffa's wife after he has killed her husband.
