I've actually been meaning to watch that as well. I really like Sandler's dramatic roles. Reign Over Me is absolutely fantastic. Thought he was great in PDL, Spanglish and Funny People too. Wish he'd do more drama.
Unless it somehow gets terrible reviews (not expecting that) and A24 does their bullshit “bury this and pretend we had nothing to do with it”, yeah it’ll be in theaters.
Reviews are strong, it has Sandler, it's not debuting on any streaming services AFAIK so yes theaters!
Supposedly goes limited on Dec 13 and wide on Dec 25, but Netflix has international rights so idk what the release strategy is outside of US/North America.
I feel bad for the people who see Adam Sandler's name and go see this and come out disappointed. Same for the people who saw Ad Astra, or when Ben Stiller was in Greenberg, or many other films. I want these films to make more money so the directors can keep making films, but it is unfortunate that it requires a little bit of a bait and switch.
Is it really a ‘bait and switch’ if the directors truly wanted an actor of a certain quality to be in it? Or if they knew they couldn’t get it made without a name attached to it? I don’t feel like those three movies are examples of anyone trying to trick audiences into seeing them.
