I'd say there's a difference and a line crossed between talking your shit and putting your mother on the album, unloading family revelations, and theming your album around said revelations, in order to conjure a specific narrative/message about yourself. Besides the fact that it's contrived and simplistic, it shuts out the listener from interpretation and just makes your art into a flat object or...well, feeling like a promotional campaign for "Tyler, the Person." It's a "valid" way to do things I guess but it kills any replay value for me. I wonder about the Kendrick influence because his worst music and impulses kind of trend in a similar direction.
Balloon's beat is so fuckin goofy and whimsical it's great, and Doechii going hard over it makes it even better
Westside Gunn put out a version of Still Praying without DJ Drama on it and I'm like what kind of chumps is this for
westside gunn voice is already such a selective type of listener that it makes it funny he did a dj drama less version of it
honestly I am going back and forth cause I think it is better than Cherry Bomb as a whole, I just love the highs on CB and there’s a bit of nostalgia attached. Call me If You Get Lost is probably more consistent but I just never gave it many spins admittedly so maybe I should
I agree that Cherry Bomb is underrated, it's just crazy rare to see CMIYGL not in someone's top three. I respect having this as your number one though, love to see it
this really has me back on the Tyler train after falling off a bit the last few years. forgot how fucking hard WHAT THE FUCK RIGHT NOW goes
