Ohh man I hope so badly that they do a full reunion onstage at Flog Gnaw (minus the obvious Hodgy and Frank, although I would obviously take them too) and I won't even be there. That nostalgia would be incredible
Steve was like 13 when OF was in their prime years haha, he didn't really come around until he joined The Internet in around 2015 (when he was like 17 which is pretty nuts)
been listening to this a lot recently after not feeling it when it came out. some stuff on here that's up there with his best (that Wusyaname > Lumberjack > Hot Wind run good lord) and still some I don't care for. part of me thinks if he'd just dropped it as a mixtape I'd have been a lot more into it, Flowerboy and Igor set my expectations for the cohesiveness of his albums sky high lol
I still think this is right up there with those two even if it may be his third best. The highs on this thing are insane
I never listened to Wolf or Cherry Bomb but I would put this third behind Flower Boy and Igor. it’s funny, I feel his first two records have aged poorly (most early OF stuff has) but have become so influential in hindsight, which is cool
Yeah, those aren't easy listens and they're very hit or miss (Wolf is too), but they're very influential and you could make a really great project from the best tracks of each of them.
I give it more slack than most, I find it fascinating from an instrumental and production standpoint but am not convinced it comes together. It was mostly a step in the right direction, though
Both of those albums are absolutely worth listening to. I almost think that Wolf is the proto-CMIYGL, and a lot of Cherry Bomb informs what he started doing on Flower Boy and IGOR. It's really fascinating watching him grow and learn new tricks on each album and then bring them into the next one, his progression throughout his discography is palpable
Just wish he got out of the horrorcore/shock-rock stuff quicker lol, the slurs and shit definitely being WOLF and Cherry Bomb down from what they could be, even recontextualized.
Just remembered the video of Ye telling Tyler that Yeezus wouldn't exist without him and it used to bring me so much joy. This timeline fucking sucks.
I think it's alright as a verse but even back then it was kinda the start of me feeling like he was just phoning in features (PUPPET being a much more extreme example of this lol). it's kind of awkward having this one really long verse sitting on its own compared to Tyler and Wayne going absolutely crazy with the back-and-forth right after. those last two minutes are just so good
SWEET” NUMBERS: Sony has two of this year’s Coachellaheadliners—Kemosabe/RCA's Doja Cat and Columbia's Tyler, The Creator. We’re told organizers were disappointed that Tyler hadn’t dropped new music, as he’d indicated he would some months before. Doja’s extended version of her SCARLET set, meanwhile, arrived on 4/5.
