Yeah, I usually tell people that if they don't like it by the third episode then I probably isn't for them
I know I'm going super slow with this, but I'm nearly there! Just watched Season 2, ep 18. Great episode. Loved every second. Great to have Coop back in the suit, and Gordon was fucking hilarious throughout. Loved the Annie/Cooper exchange in the diner. I've had Hook Rug Dance on repeat all morning, haha.
Just finished the last episode. Holy shit. There were some moments in there that are pure disturbing, nightmare fuel. What a show. Now just to watch FWWM and wait for season 3.
How's Annie?! The whole movie so is unnerving but that final scene where you see the actual rape/murder is downright horrifying. The way you can hear Leland pleading "don't make me do this!", the look on Leland/BOB's face as he's forcing Laura and Ronnette through the woods...shivers.
The scene where Laura watches her father leave the house and realizes who he is is honestly the most powerful performance I think I've ever seen in a movie. I've never gone back to it, and maybe it would lose its magic if it did, but never before has a scene impacted me on that level.
Oh god, that scene is mortifying. And the way Sheryl Lee acts it, is as you said, immensely powerful. And the scene with Philip/MIKE screaming at Leland/BOB in the street is so unnerving too ha. At first I was confused by the negative reaction that FWWM received when it was initially released but then it sort of dawned on me that really only the first half of the film has any of the quirky charm that the series had, everything after that is pretty grim and devoid of humor, save for a few Gordon Cole lines, which are really only funny by virtue of them being delivered by Gordon Cole haha. So I can imagine that really put off a lot of fans off, especially since that first half is set in an entirely different town that's like the inverse Twin Peaks with no characters from the original series appearing save for a brief Gordon Cole appearance. I've always meant to watch the fan edit that apparently exists where all the cut footage is edited back in but I've never gotten around to it. The cut Phillip Jeffries scenes always felt like they really should've been left in, at least to me.
Really don't think that the negative reaction was because of the lack of quirk. Half of the movie covered something almost entirely different from the tv show, and the other half covered the most well known part of the show
Made it through the first six episodes so far. This show reminds me of most punk rock from the 80s: I can see the influences it had in the stuff I like and appreciate it for that, but on its own compared to the level of television we have today its just not as good. Probably gonna bail after S1 unless the last two episodes are something special.
The look of the show is dated, sure. But as far as writing, depth, character development, etc. I feel as though it exceeds a lot of what is out there today, just my opinion though.
I thought the first season of Broadchurch kills it (pun slightly intended) in this vein of television. An excellent small town crime drama. Another show that does the small town thing really well is Rectify, but aesthetically it feels pretty different than TP As for the surreal and the humorous, I would maybe look towards Louie despite how strange that may sound
Just recently finished watching the series, FWWM, and the Missing Pieces for the first time. Love the show. Glad to see it's not just me that thinks the show falls off a bit after in the middle of S2. I thought FWWM was ok. The stuff with Laura is good, but I couldn't really engage with the other tangential aspects of the movie. Excited for S3. Can't imagine long time fans waiting this long ha. The scene of Bob crawling over the couch towards the camera was terrifying
Though I feel like I can hardly wait for May 21, I'd be willing to hold off on watching episodes as they air, and then go to a theatre and watch all 18 parts in one go. Of course, I'm looking forward to the ongoing discussion I missed out on when the show was airing, but seeing this in a theatre would be incredible I'd imagine
I just marked the date on my calendar for when I start the re-run leading up to the premiere and I'm excited.
I kinda wish I did the same cause my hype for it isn't nearly as crazy as it was a couple months ago, but my girlfriend never finished it so I couldn't wait haha. Still havne't watched Fire Walk With Me with her yet tho.
I couldn't be more ready for this. All I need now is a night home alone to throw the soundtrack on my turntable and plow through The Secret History of Twin Peaks to make sure I'm all perfectly caught up. I cannot wait.
