I was trying to explain this to my friend who is frustrated that he's on season two and they haven't explained Laura's murder yet and they have introduced some weird ass shit and I'm like, "well, isn't that good because now we have a lot to discuss?" but he just wants solid answers and, at the risk of sounding condescending, I feel like that's so boring. I do wish that we maybe got some more answers regarding Mother/Judy but I'm also happy that so much is left open to interpretation.
Its funny he's probably the person least likely to explain his work but the one I'd be the most interested in hearing.
Suddenly remembered that shrinking black box in Buenos Aires. Did we get any kind of resolution on that? What did that even have to do with?
If he gets there. I think he'll love most of it and despise the ending. He texted me about the Justice League movie and we discussed how Joss Whedon had to finish reshoots and sent this very charged statement, "well if only one good thing comes out of JL I hope it's that Joss gets back into directing. I fucking love him. I know he may not be artsy enough for your standards but I haven't disliked anything he's done. " Lol so...there's that.
Lynch is a mad genius for sure. I read something comparing him to the poet John Ashbery, if any of you are familiar with literature. Ashbery writes "through his subconscious" similar to how Lynch utilizes film as a medium. He's one of my favorites and actually passed very recently-- and you all should check him out. It's heady stuff but pretty enlightening if you ask me. "Wakefulness" and "Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror" are some of his classics.
Appreciate the suggestion. I'm in an English theory class and we have to pick something to write a paper on for the end of the semester. something that dabbles in surrealism seems like it might be a good avenue to go with
I find that I'm much better at film/tv analysis than I am at that of literature. I suppose I should get better as I an English major haha. Writing research papers is my forte, dissecting heady themes/ideas in poetry/literature...not so much. Though I guess I can only get better by doing it
has this been posted in here yet? I think it has more to do with going back and forth into time/different realities than it does a dream.
I wonder what was on the final diary page that got ripped out. Hawk only found three out of the four, correct?
Again, reminds me of The Dark Tower. Spoilers: The Dark Tower isn't a dream but in the book it is a book being written by Stephen King and Stephen King is even a prominent character and they travel across different "whens" in which realities are similar but not quite the same.
I gave up trying to understand it on a plot level. Lynch is not going to give us answers so there is a lot of stuff that will always be up to interpretation.
[S3E18] The Phillip Jeffries Map of Space & Time • r/twinpeaks Interesting theories here... This one too:
Don't think I've ever watched a show so simultaneously satisfying and frustrating. I know I'm watching something special, but I just wish I could make better sense of it. So many seemingly unfinished narratives and a large dose of ambiguity, but I'm glad we got The Return. Nothing like it on tv.
[AMA ANNOUNCEMENT] Sabrina Sutherland, Executive Producer of Twin Peaks and credited on many other Lynch projects, will be on /r/twinpeaks on Sunday, Sep. 10 2017 at 3 PM Pacific Time for an AMA! Details within... • r/twinpeaks
Both the score soundtrack and the roadhouse soundtrack are out this Friday I believe! I kinda like how a lot of the smaller plots were never resolved like Bobby / Shelly / Red and Nadine and Doc Amp. It's more realistic in the sense that these things are on-going and wouldn't all come to a head at the same time. Life goes on...
I think all of what subplot were interrupted by literally everything changing after Dale went back in time
So, what do we think Mr. C was going to do at the Sheriff's station had he not been thwarted, and why? I assume it had to do with Diane but I'm not sure what.
for some reason I was thinking Diana knew exactly how to get to Judy so Mr C was trying to stop Coop by killing her.
It took me a few days, but I do love the ending now. I really needed to read more responses and compare it to Lynch's previous work to understand what he was going for, but now it all makes much more sense. It is appropriate that a guy like Cooper would not just be satisfied with defeating BOB, but would gamble everything to undo the original sin of Laura's death. Just like pursuing Annie into the Black Lodge, he made things worse than they were in the first place.
I finished rewatching the original series and Fire Walk With Me, and am starting the new season again. It is funny how something like Richard and Linda slipped our minds and ended up being vital to the story, but we were all so interested in Doc Hayward's shovels when it just turned out to be part of a throwaway gag.
