I don't know but he looked an awful lot like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Not saying that means anything, but that was the first thing that popped into my head when he came on screen.

I think it's fine to be disappointed or conflicted, or like, no one is saying you have to even like a piece of art, but some of these people (looking at reddit, haven't seen much from facebook) who feel like they are owed more than what they got or that Lynch betrayed fans is such a wild way of thinking to me.

I assume it had to do with Judy. Also was that another timeline or another dimension/parallel universe? I thought that after he saved Laura in 17, it created a new timeline and then at the beginning of 18 he and Diane left that new timeline and arrived in a parallel universe where everything was different in terms of people's names and stuff.

Yeah I mean being disappointed is one thing but being disappointed that the ending didn't answer all of the questions and provide a tidy resolution was more what I meant. Like I imagine most people online who aren't big Lynch fans were disappointed for different reasons than someone, say, in this thread might have been disappointed. One is an invalid disappointment based on a lack of understanding of Lynch's work and one is not, basically.

Did he save Laura though? It showed her body disappearing but then she also disappeared before he could take her away. I think something went wrong and he was given another chance in 18.

Whatever happened with Laura in 17, saved or not, it seems like it created an alternate timeline where she didn't get killed by BOB/Leland and dumped in the water. But then when Coop and Diane drove through the electricity area at the beginning of 18 they were suddenly in another place where the names were different and people were from different places. Carrie/Laura had never even heard of Twin Peaks, for instance.

    Possible.

My interpretation as of right now is: in ep8 we saw Laura get created from the white lodge & sent to earth for some sort of purpose, perhaps to counteract bob or keep him at bay from the rest of humanity...since bob was so focused on her.

So when Coop says that he's bringing her home; home isn't the palmer house, it's the white lodge where she was created. And her disappearing / screaming is her returning to the white lodge since her purpose was fulfilled.

    Or something.

I think he was definitely trying to bring her back to the White Lodge, and that scene really supports the theory that the Fireman/Giant's observatory is the White Lodge because he was leading her to the portal there. But I don't know whether she was screaming because she went back there or because she was taken before she could get there. I mean, I guess Coop's mission in the other world could have been to find Laura there and bring her to the White Lodge but, yeah I don't know.

    Or something haha.

The way Coop says "what year is this?" destroys me. And then Laura screams and I'm destroyed even more

You can really see and hear him get scared like "what the hell have I done?". I need to go back and watch these last two episodes tonight.

I'm just glad that Sonny Jim and Janey-E got Dougie back. What version of Dougie do you think they got? Cause in the lodge he speaks as normal but when he gets to their house all you hear him say is "home."

I really just wanna know what Coop's motivations were. Was his plan always to save Laura? It seems like he could have stopped after Bob was defeated

I'm a huge David Lynch fan (Mulholland Dr is my favorite thing he's done and Blue Velvet is at least tied with Twin Peaks for me), but I have absolutely no idea how to feel about this finale. I think it's actually making me feel kind of depressed lol.

The way he delivers that line, the scream, and the music playing over the credits along with Laura whispering in his ear makes it seem like he's done something irreparably bad

If I remember correctly there's two different versions of it, in part 2 Coop gasps, and in part 18 Coop says "what", I assume that Coop took the knowledge of one of those meetings with Laura in the Red Room but ended up applying it in the wrong timeline or reality or something?

"This is the water and this is the well" might possibly be the best sequence I've ever seen on television. "I am the FBI" is a fantastic moment and way up there, but that entire sequence with the woodsman on the radio still floors me. It's so mesmerizing, which I suppose is fairly meta, but it really is.

My favourite moment of the season was the ending. It's definitely the one that will stick with me the longest.

An incredible finale. Both parts. Episode 17 had it all, and it was so clever how they tied in Coop watching Laura and James in the woods and then she saw him and screamed. And then leading her through the woods, with the music, and everything. Amazing. Julee Cruise's 'The World Spins' at the end was perfect.

Episode 18, is, I agree with a lot of what people are saying here, a Lynch experiment or epilogue of sorts. Basically, in simple terms, Coop tried to find Laura Palmer and take her to her family, but ended up in the wrong year/timeline, and wasn't sure about it. The scream from Carrie/Laura at the end was the original evil/BOB timeline reaching out to her to come back. My thoughts anyway.

So glad I got to watch this season as it happened. It will reach cult status again, much like seasons 1 and 2.
