That last sequence was amazing between the Cherry Pie, "Damn Good", and the piano player playing part of Laura Palmer's theme.

A guy at work today got really butthurt when I said this is potentially the best thing available to watch right now, when GOT has just started.

Twin Peaks 2017 > Game Of Thrones.

Actually, Twin Peaks > Game Of Thrones.

    Plenty of television > GoT

It was mostly in jest but I told a coworker the other day how I didn't care about the new season of GoT and he goes, "Pfft. This is coming from the guy who liked The Witch. That was the most boring movie I've ever seen."

Fuck you, The Witch is awesome.

I have about 8 friends who come over to watch Thrones every Sunday, and while we do love it, there's 4 of us who stick around after and can't wait to watch new Twin Peaks. I think even when Peaks changes to an earlier time slot, we're going to watch Peaks after GoT because otherwise we'll be trying to process what we just watched through the entirety of GoT

That is a very good point. I was looking forward to watching Twin Peaks first but now I think I might do the same.

GoT nearly lost me in its shit 5th season but has since gotten back on track after the writers realized that shock factor isn't the most important part of television and brought back a level of tasteful dialogue and subtlety/understated-ness. I've also noticed some characters tend to fit too neatly within their roles and it seems the writers oftentimes don't know what to do with them (Tyrion used to be such a showstopping force on screen... next to Dany, he is rendered silent for over a season's length of time-- save the moments he serves as drunken comedic relief). There's a lot to say about GoT and its failure to maintain its position as the best show on television, but I'll get ahead of myself and start railing on it. My disappointments with the show's writing are apparently uncommon, especially in my friend group. Despite it all, I still enjoy it enough.

But Twin Peaks is an entirely different experience for me. I'll go home after watching a good episode of GoT with friends, throw on Showtime, and challenge my perspective of television and art with this wonderful show that makes me laugh and cry unpredictably. Lynch's direction has placed this show on a different sphere for me. It's a personal experience. It's not trying to live up to any standard. It's got a logic all to its own and never fails to put me in exactly the right head-space with its writing, acting, music, and cinematography.

There will be nothing better on television in calendar year 2017 than Twin Peaks. Of that I am pretty much certain.

Part 11 was close to perfection as far as a mix of old, new, creepy, funny, and beautiful.

Sidenote: loving Bobby Briggs circa 2017. Not that I didn't love him in seasons 1 and 2, but him as a cop is a fantastic plot piece, and when he was speaking to Becky he really had that fatherly nature and concern. So good.

  12. There has been some good TV this year but yeah personally I don't think anything will touch Twin Peaks for me in the end.

It would be really funny if that cameo at the bar is all we see of James.

They had him in the promotional interviews and photo shoots so I would have to assume there is more. They also had Audrey and Big Ed so we will see. What is so exciting about this show is how there is no point in trying to predict it or draw conclusions because Lynch keeps going to different places.

Still the best meme to come out of new Twin Peaks.

You're a far more astute man than I am, I'd have never really made these connections haha. Very interesting interpretation. I wonder if there's anything more to that sick kid or if that's all we're gonna see and it's just supposed to be this unnerving moment that encapsulates everything you just said.

That makes sense. And is this just a one and done thing? I was never totally clear on that. I'd love for a second season, though who knows how likely that is. I do know that the season was originally going to be a lot shorter, so maybe Lynch and Frost will change their minds again and Showtime can pick up a second season. Fingers crossed.

lol I loved that. The whole thing with Candie is throwing me for a loop too, wondering what exactly her "deal" is. Or the other girls for that matter. And your point about the (somewhat) lack of main characters reminds me - I just realized the other day that even though I definitely miss the old Coop, I do appreciate that his absence is giving the supporting cast, which is full of excellent characters, room to shine. Seeing Gordon and Albert or Bobby, Hawk and Frank Truman (and Andy and Lucy!) get more screen time and a chance to "lead" is really nice.

The lack of Coop makes me pine for a second season, but at the same time it's been such a special experience that I think I'd be ok if this is it.

I've said this before in this thread I think, but I'd love this to be it. Makes it kinda special? Looks like Gordon, Albert, Tammy, Diane, Bobby, Hawk and Sheriff Truman are all about to meet at special coordinates in Twin Peaks anyway...I would love for old Coop to return by then and meet them, uncover some more secrets about evil and the black lodge, give us a few answers about what's gone on in this season, and end the run with a sort of resolution, but also a lot of questions in true Lynch fashion.

Not even a second Twin Peaks series, I just want Lynch to make another TV miniseries after this. An original one. Goddamn that'd be awesome. Just based on what he did here alone, I'd rather him stick with Showtime and make a new series than make another film even.
