Part 9 is up now on the Showtime app. As soon as it's 9pm on the east coast it goes up I'm pretty sure
Funniest episode yet. Chad leaving the room was fantastic, as was "I am not your foot." Bobby's return is greatly appreciated, and I thought this one tied lots of things together. We found out a little more about Dougie and his past which I was yearning for. Overall a great ep. Man I love this show.
I would've went with the beige chair. Lots of dot-connecting in this episode. Also Diane getting the text WTF Shoutout to Bobby and Matthew Lillard's performances in this ep Aaaanad whats up with Sky Ferriera's itchy armpits? Aaaaaand whats up with Cooper staring at the red shoes and then the electrical outlet?
Red shoes reminded me of shoes Audrey Horne wore often in the original series. Maybe the color reminded Dougie of her. Maybe not, just a thought. An electrical outlet is where Good Coop spilled out into the real world and into Dougie's life.
I'm picturing him running full speed diving into an electrical outlet, not unlike the train platform wall in Harry Potter.
May be a dumb question, but is evil coop aware that Dougie now exists? Is that who (aside from the Warden) he's talking about killing?
Here are my thoughts, which I'll spoiler tag: Evil Coop knew Good Coop would reappear into the real world eventually so he created the "distraction" doppelganger Dougie, who I believe was made with garmonbozia (Fear itself) that evil Coop has been gathering throughout his years of torment. Good Coop materializing in Dougie's body allowed evil Coop some time to continue surviving in his body, plus a half-aware half-alive Dougie Jones is easier to find and kill whenever it gets to that point. I think he is slowly but surely running out of juice though, which was evident when he stares at his reflection and only sees the slight resemblance of BOB whereas 25 years prior, BOB was his essence. You can also see how he's running out of garmonbozia (which took the form of creamed corn in the original series) because he pukes that shit out in absurd amounts after Good Coop reappeared in Dougie's place ("there's something bad in this car"), which has clearly caused a great shift in his spiritual world, leading in his arrest. I think evil Coop didn't anticipate making so many mistakes as he's lost his powers, which is why he wants to kill Good Coop and remain on earth creating havoc for as long as he wants. And I think Major Briggs is sending messages beyond the grave to help stop him and reawaken good Coop.
Nice to see the plot tightening. HudMo was a pleasant surprise, and I'd never heard of Au Revoir Simone before, but I'm definitely looking them up now.
I've spent my work day today getting my theory together about Hastings storyline so I'll share that after work.
This episode as a whole felt the most like the original series to me than any of the others thus far. There have been moments in other episodes that felt like the old ones, but this one really hit that same kind of vibe almost throughout. It was really good.
I like the theory that, if we're taking the season as an 18-hour movie, then part 8 was a kind of intermission.
