Wow. That was quite possibly one of the best hours of television I have ever seen. The nuclear blast scene gave me some strong 2001 vibes, which I very much enjoyed. I'm honestly amazed. got a light? edit: holy. fuck. I am still reeling. I never thought I'd see something like that on television
The Woodsmen (I guess that's what we're calling them even though they came from the desert initially?) were possibly the most terrifying things this series has produced. The spectral images of them swarming Mr. C's corpse and removing Bob from it was nightmarish, as was them milling in and out of that gas station convenience store. And, obviously, the scene at the radio station. Good thing I still had Veep and Silicon Valley to watch after it or else I don't know how I would've gone to bed.
If i'm ever standing outside of a show or bar and someone asks 'Gotta light?' anytime in the future I'm probably going to just full-on sprint out of there
I think that was one of the best things Lynch has ever done. it's frustrating to see people say it makes no sense because they don't understand.
A great article recapping and analyzing the episode ‘Twin Peaks’ Season 3, Episode 8: White Light White Heat
What a fantastic piece of television and storytelling. It seemed very mythical-- like we just watched the birth of modern evil. Ive got a theory that the castle in the purple ocean is the White Lodge, if not at least a divine realm thats connected to the Lodges. That's why the Giant created that golden Laura Palmer orb, as a means to oppose the BOB orb that was created at the dawning of the nuclear era. Maybe the Laura orb represents Goodness itself?
We are so used to seeing big companies meddling in the creative process, but Showtime deserves credit for allowing Lynch to make something like that.
I'm about ready to believe that the castle on the rock is the White Lodge as well, but I'm still not certain yet. I've also been referring to it as "the Observatory" in my head since last night. Seemed appropriate.
I read something that likens the human-shaped celestial being that pukes the BOB orb to the same creature that killed Sam and Tracey a few episodes back in NYC.
I do wonder how much of this mythology is going to be explained. The thing about Twin Peaks and Lynch in general is that I watch it with a filter as if it is a dream world so if the logic isn't explained, I don't really care.
I actually think a lot of "answers" were given in this episode, just in an incredibly unconventional way that also creates more questions haha
I mean, I agree, in that it was essentially an origin story. But I believe the logic of the universe probably won't be answered but that's ok. If that makes sense. Also I'm day-drunk
Yupp, it definitely was. I was wondering how that was ever going to connect and then that part came on and I was like "Ohhhhhhhhhh."
