I have missed so many of these smaller characters. I had no idea that the boss in the interview was from the original show until I read a review of the episode.
I probably should have watched the original again. I did not remember there being Horne brothers, just the one who is the father of Audrey.
Definitely worth a rewatch if you're forgetting characters. Besides, the original is a treasure to return to. Tons of little details and strings of dialogue to catch and fall in love with all over again
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I haven't watched the original in 10 years so I'm definitely missing a lot of the little details and throwbacks.
There is also the issue of how radically different some of the actors look. When Shelly was introduced in the diner, I would have had no idea that that was her without being told.
Maybe it's just me but I almost didn't recognize Peggy Lipton. Or maybe because I've barely seen her in anything else apart from the original series ha. Pretty much everyone is instantly recognizable though imo. Totally missed that that was Mike Nelson, too. Shit.
Lots to unpack this week though this was the episode that confirmed the most fan predictions so far Laura Dern as Diane has been the most popular fan theory and I really wish they gave us a longer peek at that instead of making us wait till next week. For anyone who read Secret History the whole Nez Perce thing was pretty predictable too and if those papers are the missing pages from Laura's diary it will also be something predicted by fans since the first episode. Also the scene with the boy getting run over has to be one of the hardest things to watch in television this year, lynch really nailed the emotion on that one. The new midget murderer is terrifying
Weirdly violent episode tonight between the hit and run and the office murder. I kind of bought into the Laura Dern Diane theory but I still fucking freaked out to have it confirmed. The one thing that's surprised me so far - no Audrey. I would have really thought she would be a big part in this season, or at least have shown up/had a cameo already.
Has the sound been off for anyone else? I've noticed it every episode. The sound is slightly off. Like it's not matching up with actors talking. I'm not streaming, so it's not a syncing/buffering problem.
The drawings themselves were ladders and stairs but I'm going back and rewatching after dinner to see if I can figure out what he unearthed. I'm assuming it's some sort of fraud involving the co worker he called a liar. Maybe he was helping fraudulent claims go through and getting a cut.
jesus, what an episode. Hard to explain why, but the scene with Coop looking through and marking the case files was really touching also, fuck Gene Kelly
lol I lost it at that. Albert is the best. But man what an episode. It was fun seeing the Fat Trout trailer and Harry Dean Stanton again. Well, at first anyway. Ha. Goddamn that scene was sad. And I feel like the green phenomena Harry Dean Stanton witnessed at the hit and run site was something we've seen before? I'm probably wrong but something about it felt familiar.
it's the same "intuition" Dougie has been experiencing (the black lodge symbol above the slots, the green light on his lying coworker, the glowing dots on the case files). Safe to assume it's Lodge related since Carl's background story in secret history reveals he went missing as a child in what is assumed to be an encounter with the beings of the lodge (along with another classmate and a young Log Lady). Edit: also Carl's phenomena was yellow I think, like the case filed, green was Dougie in the conference room last episode I wonder if this is connected to Agent Cooper's supernatural ish intuition in the original series since he's always had an ability to see things / tell if people are being honest / etc
Dougie's wife made more excuses for his behavior that i noticed was a little shifty, especially when responding to the officer. Whether his family is manufactured or not, the original Dougie must have been an odd dude. I also am unsure how his boss read those case files haha. Anyone know who Richard Horne was speaking to before he drives away? Also im curious about this ruth davenport storyline. It hasnt been mentioned in awhile.
There was something so deeply disturbing yet beautifully executed about the shot of the trees overhead, Carl's colloquial wonder, and the smile he shares with the mother and child before the hit-and-run. Also Carl's slow approach to the mother after seeing her child's spirit ascend into the sky and the way he utters, "God" under his breath, it's absolutely terrible and captivating in a way I know only Lynch can do... From the way the onlookers just stare on, to the mother's choked sobs in the background. I've seen it written around the web, but this season seems to be really emboldening that Lynchian interest in the human relationship to television, and the formation and development of identity through observation-- calling back images of Sarah Palmer watching animals on television devour each other, the NYC teens who die before the portal cube thingy
