Finally got a chance to catch up. Casting: Love Mathew Lillard and Michael Cera casting. Not sure how I feel about Tammy since SH gave her a very different vibe. I was also expecting Laura Dern to end up playing her. Episodes 1 / 2 I love how everything feels so Lynchian. It's like FWWM in TV form. Episodes 3/4 Love the casino bit and how weird the whole Bob / Dark Coop / Dougie Jones scenario turned out. The scene with bobby killed me. Also I really love the decision to make Denise Cole's boss and directly address his affinity for beautiful young agents since people have questioned the whole Cole / Shelly plot from S2 Secret history connection Disappointed at how little it connects so far considering how much of a drag some of the book was to read. I got really excited when agent Preston was introduced and about to brief Albert and Cole but that was a letdown when she did not connect it to any of the work she did in the book. I'm glad to see that sheriff Truman didn't end up dead (killed by cooper) the way it was implied, but glad that they managed to tie in cooper potentially killing Garland Briggs by mentioning a fire at the major's post.
I watched 1&2 last night but will wait for 3&4 next week. To me this feels more like Lynch's films than it does the original Twin Peaks, which is fine because I prefer Lynch's films to the original Twin Peaks (although still love the original Twin Peaks). It's been about 10 years since I watched the series, so I actually paused about halfway through to read up on Wikipedia about the series because I was having trouble remembering certain parts.
Still loved 3&4 Loved how completely bizarre the beginning of 3 was and the whole Coop/Doppleganger/Dougie situation. Hope it resolve itself soon but I liked what we've seen so far. Episode 4 was generally closer to what I thought the show would look like - returning Twin Peaks characters seemed to get a lot more screen time than they did in some of the previous episodes, spent a decent amount of time in the Twin Peaks sheriff office and I always loved Albert and Cole so it was great seeing a lot of them. I just can't wait to see where it goes from here, this has so far been a wonderful addition to both Twin Peaks' canon and as a sort of culmination of Lynch's entire career.
I feel like the original score is going to be sprinkled out over the season which will just make those moments work more. I love the restraint shown so far, they could have easily forced every old character back into those first two episodes but I'm glad they didn't.
Oh yeah, totally agreed. I'm glad that it's clearly a progression and we're not just in the exact same place again
There's something terribly heartbreaking about seeing Cooper so out of touch with reality at the casino. in a way it almost reminds me of the show Rectify
Just thinking of what it must feel like for people who were in their 20s when the show aired, what it's like now with the show coming back. I imagine most of us watched much later/Netflix with such a smaller gap. Must be something else.
Ep 4 when bobby sees that picture of laura and starts weeping and the music comes in was such a fantastic moment. And omg michael ceras character is so strange and classic twin peaks
I'm curious about the lack of reviews for 3&4, almost as if there's some sort of embargo even though we can watch it already...
Anyone have any theories about who the hell this Dougie guy is? Also at the end of ep 4, were they referring to Heather Graham's character?
From what I've seen sites almost never review episodes early, even if they go up on demand earlier than their actual air date, it's not something that's specific to this show (Showtime in particular puts up episodes, usually premieres, early often and HBO has done it on occasion as well)
My theory is that Dougie is something Bob created so Cooper would inhabit that body instead of taking his own back and that's why he's sort of broken at the moment, because he's not in his actual body.
