Just watched FWWM and thought it was incredible. Perfect prequel.

Trying to catch up before the premiere but I'm gonna run out of time.

I saw S1 a while back, but only remember it vaguely. Should I just watch S2/FWWM or should I start over completely?

Will I be any more/less confused either way?

You could probably skip a good chunk of the second half of S2....but make sure you see the last 2 eps.

Watch the recap video on the last page up until Cooper gets shot then start season 2. Depending on how quickly you're going you can either watch all of that and FWWM or skip a chunk in the middle.

I'm not going very quickly. A recap video of the first season would be fine, but otherwise, I feel like I shouldn't skip anything though. I probably won't catch up before the premiere but maybe before ep2 or 3.

Yeah, that's cool then do that. I think that's the best way. That's basically what I've just done, ha.

Thanks for pointing out that video. I missed it on the last page, but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Twin Peaks was the first show I ever 'binge-watched.' I bought the DVD set right after I graduated college in 2007 and watched the series in a week or so. I remember feeling anxious that I couldn't go on the internet in between episodes to research any questions I had because I knew I'd ultimately see spoilers. It's been almost 10 years since I watched it, so I definitely don't remember a lot of it, but I remember loving it and am very excited for Sunday.

Do you enjoy David Lynch's other work? The show is quite quirky and bizarre, which is very Lynch-like. If you like his other work, I'd stick it out.

I've never seen anything else of his, no. I've heard of Mulholland Dr and Blue Velvet, but haven't seen them.

Oh, man! Blue Velvet and Lost Highway are two of my favorite films ever. Mullholland Drive is pretty good too, although not one of my favorites. I'd definitely suggest you watch Blue Velvet. Lost Highway is SUPER bizarre. But great.

Mulholland Drive is my favourite Lynch and one of my favourites of all time. Also adore Blue Velvet and Eraserhead. Haven't watched Lost Highway yet but I'm planning on it either tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, I will add those to my movie list for sure. I think either HBO Go or Netflix had a few of them at one point so I will take another look. That usually depends how quickly I can see something haha. Movies readily available tend to jump the line.

I think one of my problems with Twin Peaks is that I went in expecting a drama with a crime mystery element and I'm watching something that's more of a soap opera trending down weird potentially sci-fi that's also a sneaky dark comedy. I'm just not really sure what to do with it right now. I'm still four episodes in and on the fence about soldiering on.

I actually prefer Lost Highway to Blue Velvet but realize more people feel the opposite way. Both are great films. My film class in college actually studied Blue Velvet. That's how I initially saw it.

I've never watched any David Lynch films, and his been one director I've been meaning to watch but never have. What kind of mindset should I have, or things should I look for when watching his material?

Be prepared to be confused as hell at times, weirded out, etc. For Mulholland Drive, look out for symbolism, after my first time watching it I had to read some theories including Lynch's own 10 clues about the movie to get a better grasp on it, which made my second watch even more enjoyable. Lost Highway is a similar situation, there is another theme that I would watch out for that is a pretty big part of it so I don't want to give it away, one that is a bit more obvious in Lost Highway imo. Both are great movies but I have met people who just don't like anything Lynch does which in ways I can understand but he's a personal favorite

I agree with a lot of the above post. Be prepared to stick with something even if you don't see where it's going or what it means at first. There's a lot of symbolism and metaphor in his movies and especially something like Mulholland Drive isn't exactly a straightforward narrative. I'd suggest starting with Blue Velvet probably, I feel like that one is one of his more straightforward films but still has a lot of his style in it.

Watching a David Lynch film is unlike any other film experience I have with other directors' movies. With the stranger ones like Mulhoulland Drive and Eraserhead, you should let it wash over you like a dream would, and choose emotion over logic when attempting to comprehend some of the stranger moments. Once everything is settled, let the images and ideas ruminate in your head. With Eraserhead, the images are so profound that they'll stay in your head for days, and eventually you'll somehow understand the weight of them. The dude makes surreal movies, but they're really emotionally affecting.

With Blue Velvet, it's a little more narrative-based so it's more accessible. It's still disturbing as hell, so prepare for that. Although I would argue Fire Walk With Me is arguably just as disturbing, if not more.

Yeah I would say the order they were released: Blue Velvet, Lost Highway then Mulholland (which I consider his best). Inland Empire to me was too complex and impossible to figure out but I only watched once so perhaps I will revisit at some point.

Elephant Man is also so good-- much more narrative-based--but it'll make you sob like a little baby. Maybe one of the saddest movies I've ever seen.

I think The Elephant Man is pretty fantastic too but that's much more traditional.

Since this is temporarily morphing into a David Lynch-appreciation thread, you guys need to read some of these comics he wrote and drew for a time. They're called the Angriest Dog in the World, and it's just this dog who is paralyzed in his anger. The first caption always reads, "The dog who is so angry he cannot move. He cannot eat. He cannot sleep. He can just barely growl. Bound so tightly with tension and anger, he approaches the state of rigor mortis." There's a dude from inside the house that just says the most upsetting stuff lol

    Here are some of them:

Man, I just cannot get into this show. I like Mulholland Drive and love Blue Velvet, so it's not a "Lynch isn't for me" scenario... but I can't get past the first three eps. Pretty much everyone I care about in my life is having a huge premiere party on Sunday so I tried really hard to get on their level.

I'd say if you're not into it by the end of the third episode it's probably not for you.
