stumbled upon this podcast earlier. they’re both likable and it flows well thus far. figured I’d share for anyone who may be interested:
I watched The Art Life yesterday and while Lynch is notoriously bad with words, it was great hearing him share memories in his own special and unique way. Some of the anecdotes were super interesting especially everything related to his parents and upbringing. The story about the naked woman is wild, as is the story of his dad telling him never to have children.
my favorite part of The Art Life is that this was filmed/released before Twin Peaks: The Return was released, and if you look closely on his desk, you can clearly see a yellow notepad where David wrote out the Monica Bellucci dream sequence
that's fucking wild. one of my all-time favorite TP moments there's also this one part where he gets choked up telling a story of his family moving from their first home, in such a way that he can't even finish telling it. I looked it up afterward and others had wondered about it too. apparently the same anecdote is shared in his book Room to Dream where he finishes the thought, and it turns out to just be a deeply emotional moment where nothing bad happened lol
If you watch it you’ll know what I mean lol he’s not bad with words, per se, but he’s no wordsmith when it comes to telling personal stories. He’s great at saying things in such a way that you understand, which is all that matters, but he’s always made comments about how he feels words reduce things. You can see him throughout the doc struggle with finding the right words to capture the emotions and memories correctly.
THe Monsterpiece theater bits with Cookie Monster are all so good because they're really geared for the adults watching the show with their kids lol. THey did a Jurassic Park one and a Walking Dead one that were great
I’m on book one of the Wayward Pines trilogy and it’s giving me big Twin Peaks vibes. Anyone else check it out?
when i first listened to the EP, there was a small part of me that felt like that song had some sort of connection to Twin Peaks (or was at least inspired by it)... glad to know i was right (and glad to hear they went and wrote this after proposing another song - The Lovers - that David said wasn't scary enough).
