Yeah, I felt like there was a year period between RAB and Vessel where I was driving to Columbus every few weeks to catch them. Was the OU show the outdoor show that used to be up on YouTube? In like a big field?
Yeah, that was one of them. They played twice that first year I was there. That was my first weekend of college. I didn’t know anyone, knew they were playing, but didn’t go. The time I didn’t know about until after was when they played The Union.
It's very clear he's been listening to Elton John, Good Day, Bounce Man, Mulberry Street, and Never Take It all give me that kind of vibe.
This livestream is gonna be phenomenal. Really looks like it’s going to be a full-on musical. Full band (with their friends Simon, Paul, Jesse, Josh, & Ned hahaha), backup singers, backup dancers, multiple sets & costumes, SFX. Cannot wait to see what they do.
I really like this album. Doesn't hit me as well as Trench did, but they're just two completely different albums for different moods. I do hope they go back to that darker Tench sound at some point.
Wish I could have watched the livestream. This setlist is fantastic. twenty one pilots Setlist at Value City Arena, Columbus
Oh my god, that livestream was incredible. I would 100% be down for the full band when they tour. EDIT: I was stoked when Paul Meany was on the piano during Ride.
I think the album is good, it's more consistent than Blurryface and more mature than Vessel. But personally I can't help but feel like it's a step back from Trench, to me this is nowhere near that album.
For some reason I went into this assuming it was going to be my least favorite by them (I think because it feels like there's so little hype compared to their usual album releases?) but this is fucking great, easily stacks up with all the others. Only song I'm not crazy about at the moment is Bounce Man, everything else just instantly hit for me. Favorites are all the singles, The Outside, Never Take It, Mulberry Street, No Chances and Redecorate, which is damn near the whole album. Really excited to see them on this tour and to see where they go next Really glad I'm still onboard with these guys
Didn’t watch the livestream but I just listed to this record and yeah…. It’s pretty much everything I didn’t want from TOP. Shy Away is a cool track but even that feels half baked. I’m sure most people will like this but Trench was such a cool pivot and I wish they continued down that sound. This is just polished pop which I just find uninteresting.
For as straightforward as most of these songs are, I could see this being one of those albums that is even more highly regarded by fans and critics years down the road. I agree that the biggest shock for most long-time fans is how much of a 180 this is from Trench. But they kind of signaled that with “level of concern” last year, IMO.
