I liked the first single better but this is solid. Definitely agree that it sounds like their older stuff
I know, right?! The dude has become a pretty great songwriter, at least in the melody and hook departments.
Not a fan at all of Choker... but Shy Away is cool! Definite Phoenix vibes which I don't mind at all. My preferred sound for this group is something more along the lines of Morph and My Blood but I assumed that they weren't going to stay in that lane musically again anyways.. oh well.
I'm disappointed with Choker too. It sounds like it could have been on the self-titled or Regional At Best, and I like those albums, but it feels like a step backwards you know?
This might be why I actually enjoy this track. Not a huge fan of the chorus but love everything else.
Honestly surprised at the lack of hype surrounding this album considering it's out Friday. I feel like Trench was so different.
Yeah, I keep forgetting about it completely. Shy Away had a little momentum but I feel like Choker got absolutely no static whatsoever. I'm not even going to listen to Saturday until the album is out. I think they're performing at the Billboard Awards this weekend, but other than that, feels like a super bizarre album rollout - in terms of hype or expectations.
I was hoping they would continue more in the vein of Trench so I’m not really excited for this record tbh.
What kind of hype or expectations are we talking about here? Like #1 radio hits, or...? I see tons of positive comments on most social media.
A JAM, IMO. It's like mixing the chorus of "My Blood" with the instrumentation of "Level Of Concern" and then putting that on steroids. Love it.
Trench was also released after their breakthrough album and after a year of complete silence from the band. I think this will do just fine, but it’s just a different time.
I think they're focusing most of their efforts on the livestream being the real launch of this cycle. Not to mention they recently did an interview where they said after Blurryface, they kind of wanted to intentionally alienate some of their more mainstream fans, and I think that's still the case. They don't really want to get a ton of attention outside of the fanbase.
