The Taking Back Sunday vibes hit me more and more on each listen. “Stood a Chance” especially, both with the song and the video. Plus I got some “People” music video vibes too.
Yeah vinyl production is a mess globally at the moment, but even worse if done in the U.S. Some bands won't be able to ship vinyl until December.
I’d still order it. I know the vinyl situation is a mess, but IMO it’s weird to not offer it. Even if delays are expected, just be up front about it and I don’t think people will be turned off by it.
This album got announced three days ago lol. There’s definitely going to be a vinyl y’all EDIT: Brandon Rike, the guy who does most of their creative/artwork, confirmed in an Instagram comment that a vinyl is coming but COVID really delayed vinyl production across the board
Definitely dig this song. The 80s vibes are strong (sounds like they’ve been listening to a fair amount of new wave), but it rocks in a way that their singles don’t usually.
I’d be good with no more singles before the album, although I highly doubt they won’t release at least one more.
Don’t get me wrong I love these guys. But I’m, at best, an above average causal fan. I can’t get over how obsessed I am with this song. Bring on the album.
If they do release any more, I really want it to just be one more and that's it. Getting really tired of the "let's release half the damn album before release" trend that's been more common lately. It breaks the experience of listening to an album in full for the first time when artists release more than a quarter of the tracks before street date IMO.
I’m surprised TOP hasn’t ever just up and dropped a full album with no notice. I’m really curious about their contract with FBR too. They’ve somehow managed to avoid the “reserved seating floor” and VIP packages curse that a lot of bands of their size have fallen to. I’m really interested in what the trade off is for the label to make money in exchange. Probably the disgusting amount of merch they sell
I was bored listening Shy Away the first time, while watching the video. Second listen, 2 days later: "Okay, so it's Phoenix... I like Phoenix". Third listen, later that same day: "I like that the hook isn't trying to be massive like the average radio single". Fourth listen, this morning: "This song is going to rule live".
As with a lot of artists who are releasing music in 2021, I wonder if the May 2021 date for TOP was their original intention to release the album, or if maybe it had been ready to go at some point of 2020 had there not been a pandemic/stoppage of touring. I remember back in 2019 they were talking about already working on a new album. This song, at least, kind of sounds like the very same style/feel as Level of Concern - and Level of Concern came out very quickly after the shutdown, so despite Tyler saying he wrote and recorded that song in 3 days in March - I wonder if much of that song (or at least the bones of it) was written already and the lyrics added/changed to fit the pandemic theme - given how it has that 80's pop vibe similar to this song.
Pulled this from the press release: A press release states that the forthcoming LP is the "product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 - anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and doubt." It adds how: "The duo had to forgo their normal studio sessions, but reached a new of level of introspection in the process, adopting a more imaginative and bold approach to their songwriting. "The result is a collection of songs that push forward through setbacks and focus on the possibilities worth remembering."
“shy away” is amazing. on repeat used to hate these guys but trench really caught my ear and i’m super hyped for this record
I’ve always wanted ToP to play Ohio State’s football stadium for a hometown show. I’ll definitely see them again wherever but going back to the same arena loses it’s appeal.
Where is the full release? I never saw this. I'm wondering if this is a concept album/continuation like the past two albums. The last I read was from Tyler's interview with Beats 1 in May when he said they were writing and recording, but wasn't sure if the new album would be based on another character/continuation or it could be an in-between album, given the pandemic.
I haven't been to a show in 14 months. I'll see anyone anywhere. Now is not a time to be picky, haha.
