I always forget this band is sort of a Jesus band though none of the religious imagery or lyrics every bothered me as an atheist.
Yeah, they're not Relient K (also a great band). They're more nuanced in their lyrics. Fans can take what they want from it. Drag path is one of their most religious songs ever but can still be relatable to those who have a different philosophy.
One listen through and thought the second half ended up dragging on, haha. Clancy was the same way with me. I anticipate really clicking with this after a couple of listens. Some super catchy moments here and has solidified me seeing them in October.
My litmus test when it comes to Jesus bands is that I just can't do overt worship music. Songs that are just people nonstop praising the lord are just insufferable. Music that is made by Christians but is mainly about secular themes (Switchfoot, Thrice, etc.) is fine by me.
Overall, very much enjoying this album (they've never released an album I haven't liked) but I can't help but feel like much of this was b-sides re-worked or leftovers from previous albums. Standouts for me are definitely Tally, One Way, Robot Voices and The Contract but there's nothing on here that I don't like.
Just looked it up. Dammit. I’ll maybe warm back up to it down the road, but this frustrates me personally.
“City Walls” gonna end up one of my favorite songs of the year and that’s impressive as shit with how stacked this year has been for albums/songs, goddamn. really enjoying this but the back half isn’t quite hitting as much / as quickly as the first half and the last 2-3 albums. I suspect that will change pretty quickly so not too worried about it
Finally gave this a listen (Friday was too stacked) and I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying this! I’m one of those that tried giving every album since Vessel a try, but with not much clicking. There was always the hope that with Mutemath dissolving and PM’s involvement that I’d find something to love, but idk something kept the albums at arms length. Happy to see that change with Breach. I’ll have to give Trench and Clancy a reassessment
Did anyone preorder the vinyl and actually receive it yet? I got a tracking number on Friday, and it still hasn't updated. I get this message: Currently, we are not able to provide the tracking details. We can’t locate shipments if we haven’t received information from the shipper yet, or if the package information is older than 120 days.
When I went home from work yesterday, it was on my doorstop. Tracking number must have not matched up with the delivery and I never received a follow-up email about it being delivered and the tracking number is still giving me the same message as it was prior. Oh well, I got it!
This album wasn’t even in my radar on Friday, and it’s up there with my most listened release of the day
I’m terrible with placing things and the last verse/yelling of “Center Mass” reminds me so much of a song/artist and I cannot put my finger on who that is (the vocals specifically) and it’s driving me mad
i was legit just about to make a post of “ok even though I just said I’m bad with remembering/relating things, the first 30-60 seconds of “Robot Voices” strikes me as very DCFC-esque” lol
Artists I thought of while listening to this record: Death Cab, Linkin Park, Sigur Ros, Kendrick, Interpol, The Killers, Radiohead, and Mew. But it all sounds like Twenty One Pilots.
