Great to hear we're getting the on-demand release, but I hope there's an option for that Dolby mix on the file. Also hoping it's not something I'll have to rip the DRM out to play on my Plex server. Fingers crossed!
i'm sure there will be someone that's extracted it from Apple TV or Amazon or something. i wish Sumerian would do a Blu-ray, even 1080p with the 5.1 or Atmos mix, but digital would be alright as long as it wasn't locked into a storefront.
so far movie is up on Fandango At Home (Vudu) for $9.99, albeit in 1080p with stereo audio only (despite several music videos from this being in 4K on YouTube, and the theatrical release having a surround mix). not sure when other storefronts will get it.
Vudu/Fandango At Home is pretty good about upgrading purchases to 4K, when available, for free, but iTunes storefront tends to be quicker.
true, although i'm doubtful it would happen for some time (if at all) for a smaller studio like Sumerian. i'm still waiting for them to upgrade their copy of Possessor to 4K, despite it being available in 4K elsewhere.
I feel like there's a 100% chance this is going to get a physical release at some point. They're riding the hype, getting that cash and for all the work they put into it they deserve it. I'll buy my first new DVD in 10+ years for Turnstile when the time comes!
it's definitely possible, as Sumerian has done physical releases for some of their other projects (notable American Satan - with assistance from Miramax, Paradise City, and Mind Over Matter), but i think it'd probably be a while unless they wanted to fast-track it given the success of the band/album. physical media is still not as high of a priority compared to streaming, and unless Roadrunner and Sumerian were positive that discs could sell well enough to justify their manufacture, i think they'd opt for the convenience of digital over physical for now.
Honestly, I’d have just as hard of a time playing a DVD as a VHS these days. I have an Xbox One in my basement somewhere I’d have to dust off.
on that note, if you have a 4K TV and want to play physical discs, stop buying DVDs unless it's your only option, and spend the extra money and pick up a cheap Blu-ray player instead of a DVD player. a 4K video/image has 27 times as many pixels as a DVD quality video/image, but only 4 time as many pixels as a 1080p video/image. the upscale from 1080p Blu-ray to 4K is a lot smoother than the upscale from 480p DVD to 4K. i know lots of people still buy DVDs over Blu-rays due to the advent of streaming and not seeing a need to upgrade discs or equipment when the Blu-ray format first took off (not to mention that some things still only get DVD releases, so sometimes that might be the only way to physically own something). but the jump from DVD to 4K will generally look pretty bad unless your player and TV can handle it really well.
I've spent thousands on my various music listening setups, but my TV/players are embarrassingly bad. It's just oddly a medium I don't prioritize in comparison to sound.
It's up on Fandango at Home. $4 rental or $10 purchase. 1080p stereo. Hope 4k ends up on Apple or somewhere... bummed about it being stereo more so than 1080p https://athome.fandango.com/content/browse/details/TURNSTILE-NEVER-ENOUGH/4350918
Just watched the movie on fandango, no idea what any of it means but it’s awesome. They’re so fucking cool lol
