This is such a great email-job work day album. Chill atmospherics allow me to contemplate and allow deep thought when I need to finely craft a note to clients. Riffs and double-time parts allow me to feel productive and wanting to start a pit while being frustrated with said clients.
Today, I literally forecasted my departments growth goals and action plan for next fiscal year AND a plan to add an in-house back office complete with 4 phases….all while listening to this album on repeat. I haven’t felt this accomplished in a while and I thank Never Enough for that.
Really couldn’t disagree more with people who think this is merely Glow On 2.0 and doesn’t show growth. Feels like I’m listening to an entirely different album.
I'm so sad and surprised there's no Baltimore/DC date, I wasn't able to make it to the park show and I really didn't think that would "count" for our tour date I hope they have something special planned for the hometown that hasn't been announced yet
Same also saw some comments on reddit saying there aren't bangers on here ala holiday and I'm like, sooo people must be missing half of the album. The interludes and instrumentals are so good on here. They've come a long way from Time and Space. There's an interlude on there that sounds like elevator music lol give me the pan flute!
Seeing them tomorrow at Outbreak fest in London, actually looking forward to it! I'm only a recent Turnstile convert, but had the opportunity to get a dirt cheap ticket (general is £80, managed to get two for under £20) and couldn't turn it down. Especially with Danny Brown, Model/Actriz and GlassJaw (playing stuff from their first two albums only) playing as well.
I dont know how I missed it but Look Out For Me has incredible Rage Agianst The Machine vibes. Very Testify heavy vibes at that. From the intro build up to Brendan’s “ughhhh!” to the out of phase drums in the verses…. great song.
You're in for a treat, every time I watch a live set of Turnstile from Outbreak it is all out chaos in the best way possible.
I Care might be the highlight for me to be honest. Slowdive, Light Design, and Sunshower are my next tier of favorites. I think I hate Dreaming though
Dreaming grew on me. I love the chorus on it. A different song is stuck in my head each day. Light Design is the one for me at the moment.
I am obsessed with this album. "Ceiling" is the only one that still isn't quite right to me, I get the whole Frank Ocean-esque thing they tried but I wish they had landed on a lower register when they pitched it up, it feels just a bit off. Every other song is an absolute banger though.
Spend a good amount of time with this since release. I've been skipping Never Enough, Ceiling, Time Is Happening, and Magic Man whenever I've spun this after my first few listens. Weakest tracks on there imo. Also skipping the second halves of Sunshower and Look Out For Me since those outros are unnecessarily long. Love all the faster/heavier songs the most tbh. I don't think any of the indie rock leaning ones are as good as Underwater Boi or New Heart Design. I Care kinda feels like a less dynamic version of New Heart Design to me. Really my only gripe with this record is how similar the songs are to the ones on Glow On (yes i know this has been said a million times already). Brendan is a great front man and I love his presence but I think his fairly limited range holds them back a bit when the band is trying to make non-hardcore tracks. Still think this is a really fun record. Still very well made with a bunch of songs I'll continue to return to, just needed a bit more of its own identity.
watched a snippet of a pitchfork interview on instagram where brendan talked about panda bear and that tracks because MAGIC MAN and CEILING always felt like panda bear songs to me
That guitar lead in I CARE always makes me think of the solo in Like A Stone. Great song. Said it before when they debuted it on Fallon but the bass work on that song is just so tasteful. Franz manages to shine a lot in this band but he really owns that song. The best example to show off his proficiency
