I don’t hate it and I get it but sometimes I just need to take a step back and say yeah, the album is good and I like it. I should be awarded for my bravery
Ran through it 3 times. Sole was even better than I hoped it would be. I really thought it was flawless through Look Out for Me, and in my first listen, I had to stop after that. Came back to Ceiling which was a tiny dead, but that’s picking very small nits. Really dig the 1-2 punch of Time is Happening and Magic Man as a closer. What a time to be a music fan.
I’ve only listened to this twice (and while working, lol, looking forward to a listen while on the train), and I really like it. I feel like it progresses quite a bit from Glow On - more vibey, atmospheric, but the songs themselves are quite stripped back in a really cool way. Also the guitars sound cool as fuck
Yeah this is great. The two albums work really well as companions. Much like MMOG to Black Mile. Loving all the instrumental breaks. Such an atmospheric and cohesive album.
I love this, it’s really great and one of my favs this year so far. There are moments where it sounds almost too similar to some glow on songs. Never Enough = Mystery Birds = TLC Sole = Endless (mainly the second verse of endless) It doesnt ruin it as I think of them like companion pieces and Glow On rips, so more is better. I do wonder how their next album will sound
My friend who doesn’t usually listen to this type of music recommended this album to me today. They’re definitely getting bigger.
This is definitely a very good album front to back. This one feels more like a journey rather than mix tape too. However, it’s downfall is it doesn’t have the major hitters like Holiday and Mystery, if you even want to consider that a downfall.
Listened to this as as the sun came down on my train from NY to Washington DC and can say its 100% the best album for that.
Having so much fun with this. First listen down and it mostly delivers on the hype, which is all I wanted. Space to grow too.
I love albums that have a “big centerpiece” song, and Look Out For Me is totally that. Just shows everything this band can do so well.
My preorder vinyl just came in the mail damaged. I’m so pissed. They are all sold out so it’s not even like they can replace it
I was worried about not enjoying this as the singles didn’t grab me entirely. My fear was undeserved as I love this a lot. Some of the outros I’d cut down, but really feeling the vibe of it.
Is it? I think comparison to the past works of an artist or to other albums coming out in the same time period is an important part of critical analysis. Your post read like you were saying it was bad to compare it to the context it exists in and instead just enjoy it for what it is. To me, the context is part of what makes it a good album or not. Apologies if I am off base here.
