Popped into the local record store to gush about the album. Got interrupted by a hardcore dude slamming the cd down and returning it. Just wasn't his thing. He was very disappointed and said, "they used to be a hardcore band, you know?". Didn't engage with him, but i get where hes coming from. It made me and the owner chuckle. To each their own! My record hasnt even shipped yet, so I promptly bought his copy after he left. Sounds way better in the car than streaming thru Spotify. Gonna be jamming this in the car all the time!
Is anyone else's vinyl pre-order from their store still in preshipment? I'm bugging something happened to mine...
Only given it a couple spins so far, but this album is not clicking with me. “Look Out For Me” is rad, though
Album rules, I don’t think it has the hooks or the high highs of Glow On but it’s arguably more consistent. I have so much admiration and respect for how hard this band is swinging for the fences with everything they do, sonically, aesthetically, visually, how can people not be happy for them with the much deserved success they’re having.
I also feel like there’s a pretty big difference in vibes between this album and Glow On - this is so much more mellow and chill, quite wistful at times, too. Whereas Glow On was a record to get amped to, this is a late summer evening sit and watch the daylight fade away into evening kind of record.
This records good but shouldnt be placed on a pedestal like some of yall think. He thou should not be named agrees
I genuinely believe the focus on an album being a potential album of the year or as good as their last album gets in the way of accepting the simple fact that it’s a good album. When I’m bumping it in my car none of that matters ya know?
I also hate the immediate need to rank (though I’m sometimes guilty of this) or determine where an album falls on some arbitrary list as soon as it’s released. Need to give things a while to sink in.
