I like this, but it’s definitely a bit too to Glow On. If you’re going to do that, it needs to be actively better than the last release and I just don’t think this is. That said, I imagine I’ll end up listening to this a fair bit more over the coming months, it feels like more of a grower.
One thing I'd like to point out is how much I cannot stand when outlets refer to unreleased music as "This generation's [classic]". Sets some pretty unrealistic standards. Partially my fault for giving in to the hype, but I still hate it every time I see it. This album is great, but referring to it as a classic? I'm not so sure.
Not trying to be contrarian, but all of the people complaining it sounds like Glow On...what did you expect? More hardcore? Less hardcore? Something completely different?
Glow On……now with interludes! good album! Not as much growth between this album compared to their previous outputs. Almost seems like Brendan is filling in Brady’s missing parts with his solo material(check it out if you haven’t). Overall the perfect summer album that’s I’ll be abusing until the new end it comes out!
Referring to any album as a classic within the first 5 years of it being released is dumb to me personally
currently enjoying turnstile summer with some never enough and grill food. loving these horns on dreaming. lfg!
I’ve learned that if enough people/blogs say something is a classic, it becomes one even if it isn’t great. Channel Orange/Blonde, GKMC, Lemonade. They’re in the history books that no one reads anymore
After a few playthroughs with this record on Apple Music, this is 100% the record that will convince me to casually start running again. it’s also wild (still) that Franz and Brendan were just casually hanging out at United Blood back in April and a secret turnstile show at the canal club during that weekend would’ve been so dang cool (alas, Brendan drumming for TUI was still pretty cool!!!)
It’s weird - I’m the interlude/synthy paets make it seem like this should drag. But both times I’ve finished this I’m like damn that was 45 minutes? It’s over already? Excited to spend time with this all summer
I’ll have to revisit Glow On at some point just based on how into this one I am. I liked that album a lot at the time, just didn’t think it was as insanely good as everyone else and I haven’t listened in a couple years.
