Yeah I like the song but I'm not blown away by it, but I definitely agree that it sounds like a really cool opener in context of the full album
Well, 4:17 was far from 2:02... BUT! Removing the intro and outro get's to a very nice 1:49! Edit: the song itself was whatever but I'm still having high hopes for the album.
the new video seems to flow into another faster song, I like how they're still doing a bunch of different stuff. I loved how airy Never Enough is
I find the reaction overall to be kinda interesting to me. For me, the thing about this band that really grabs me is their no fucks attitude when it comes to music styles/genres and you never know what you are gonna get. They are all over the place musically, in the best way possible. I never expected a 5 minute slow burner as the first single from a new album, but the song is GOOD. I know the album is going to be varied, and as a first taste this song is sick
Some speculation of a free Turnstile show in Baltimore based on a radio interview given by the bassist, Frank Lyons yesterday.
I think that this is exactly why some people don't like it. It sound so much like the last album. I like it but to me it sounds like it could be on Glow On.
But Glow On is like 20 different genres itself, so it's not crazy there would be elements of something from that album. It sounds like what, two songs on the album?
I won't get into a discussion that I know beforehand won't go anywhere, haha, I'm excited for the next track, and I'll leave it at that.
I think it’s understandable if someone is a little bit let down if they were preparing to be launched into the next segment of this band’s career only to be met with a song that is basically just MYSTERY again almost beat for beat, even right down to its placement on the record. At the same time it would be silly to expect that the record won’t be full of surprises
Both of these things can be correct: people stoked for a new Turnstile song that sounds like... a Turnstile song, and some people being a little disappointed because it's safer than what they were hoping to hear. For what it's worth, this feels so much like Mystery that it has to be intentional. Manchester Orchestra has opened their last two albums with very similar sounding songs, and they are intros to the album of a sort, not necessarily tracks meant to stand on their own. I imagine that's exactly what Turnstile is doing, and they also know exactly that people are going to react differently to it being the first single.
Even the covers have consistency! God forbid the band tries to have thematic and brand consistency between “eras” They should have released 2 songs then fwiw
First sounds of Never Enough remind me of the boot up sounds you'd hear when firing up a gaming console like Dreamcast / PS2 / XBOX 360. That is to say it's perfect for a start up track
Like I said in the hardcore thread, they're really in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation right now with their sound and their first single. Do you stay true to your roots and put out a hardcore track? Do you put something out to showcase your expanding sounds? I don't know the answer. It's just fun to play armchair music industry quarterback when I have no stakes in it. For my 2 cents, they really knocked the Glow On lead up out of the park so well by releasing an initial EP of tracks on the album. Probably doesn't help that Holiday is also an all-timer modern hardcore song IMO. I would've loved to see something like that for this with Never Enough leading into a more straightforward hardcore song personally.
I think it's kind of silly that we're having this much "discourse" about a single song to begin with in all honesty lol
Legit don't remember that coming out at first, but after looking it up, I'm wrong. Just remember the EP. My bad.
