How was JPEGMAFIA received on the tour? He's amazing live and I feel like he probably actually has a decent amount of fan crossover
I’d say 70% of the crowd in Toronto really enjoyed Peggy, but the floor wasn’t nearly as full for him (he opened) as it was for Turnstile
Feel like next headline tour is arenas unless the next album flops. Roadrunner is kinda huge to begin with but Saturday had a very 'not gonna see this band in a reasonable sized venue again any time soon' vibe.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Snailmail/comments/z15jp5/lj_made_a_suicide_joke_on_stage_in_boston_last/ Sounds like the criticisms are getting to Lindsey’s head, and it kind of all came out yesterday. I really do feel for her. I think there’s room to be a bit disappointed in her set and all the tech issues and still realize she is a human being at the end of the day and this may not be the best tour for her.
people are being very weird about it, just let her do her thing she seemed like she was having fun last night otherwise
Not saying this is any of you because I know it’s not, but I wonder if maybe it has to just do with her being a woman and an artist who is a completely different vibe than Turnstile and Peggy (and the other acts playing some dates like Fiddlehead) and the tech issues (she knows how she wants to sound, not the crowd) are causing people (read: Hardcore bros) to just act like she’s being annoying and should not be on the tour. If Turnstile or Peggy were having similar tech issues and trying to get them fixed on stage, would people have the same complaints?
I thought Snail Mail sounded pretty good last night, definitely the most I’ve heard an artist ask for sound changes during a set but it didn’t really detract from their performance.
If I was a young artist on tour I’d probably be uncomfortable and weirded out with how hyper focused people were about my every comment and reaction. She was awesome in Boston and seemed to be having a blast.
Tbh the hardcore bros that you speak of are quite the minority in the crowd at this point for Turnstile. Regardless, hardcore shows are very inclusive these days, be it style of music or different people that are playing and attending. Your generalization of hardcore is pretty absurd. Regarding Snail Mail, I can only speak to what I saw in Chicago. Both my partner and I like her music, but she didn’t come off good at that show. There was clearly a rift between her and the sound person. And her tech was on and off the stage working on her amps and pedals the whole set, while doing the scheduled tuning and swapping of guitars. Weirdly they never tried to swap a new chord in for the guitar. She is young still, but has also been playing a lot of shows and there is way to handle those issues with grace regardless of how frustrating it is. When in doubt just act like nothing is wrong. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell there is an issue. I think that’s the learning moment is that sometimes shit hits the fan on stage and you have to deal with it. At the end of the day, you are getting paid every day to be on a cool tour. Glad some of the other dates are going better for them.
The fact this is even a discussion is stupid. I’ve seen so many bands say shit/yell at the sound guy and no one gives them shit. It’s gotta be frustrating as hell to have sound issues every night on tour.
I’ve been to many shows and never seen someone openly frustrated with a venue staff who are also just trying to be professional and do their job like she is. Again it seems to be a majority of the tour people are saying she’s being argumentative.
Sound issues are incredibly frustrating and can massively impact an artist onstage, and it’s also inherently going to detract from the performance if you’re calling out to the sound person after every song. Both things can be true. It sucks she’s having so many sound issues.
The only show i've been to this year where the sound person did their job A+ was Pianos. Every other show this year I feel like Im taking crazy pills. Recently at 4 different venues LS Dunes - Where are the guitars, i swear they are playing them Foxing - Vocals too low for the first half Narrow Head - guitar feedback for the first 4 songs screeching every 30 seconds Manchester - bass way too low Caracara - drums too loud...room might have just been too small Nothing makes me feel more like the old guy than being upset with the sound person Hoping its better for Menzinges, Gleemer, and TSOAF. Please god
