Going tonight. Really pumped for Snail Mail too, though I’ve heard she’s been having a bit of a tough tour.
She was having sound issues in Pittsburgh too. She kept saying stuff to the sound dude the entire set. They sounded great though.
I love Snail Mail and am glad she got the opportunity to be on this tour but sound issues at a lot of the shows is crazy. It sucks that a lot of peoples introduction to her will be a not so great set because of these issues. I wonder if these were issues they could fix mid tour or stuff that they can’t fix until your is over?
I do have to say Snail Mail are great, and great live, and if your opinion of them is based on a 30 minute set that had technical issues you should give them another chance. Also having technical issues and being frustrated things are not going the way they are intended =/= complaining IMHO. This is her job and she has every right to be annoyed if things are not working or sounding right. (It just begs the question like I said on whether there’s anything more that can be done to stop these issues from happening at the shows or not) I think in theory mixed genre tours are dope but this may not have been the right tour for her.
Tech issues at so many dates becomes a trend though. Chicago, she legitimately had stuff going in and out, but when it worked she was frustrated at the sound person (not sure if she has her own) and her personal tech was working their ass off the whole time. Everyone else seemed fine. It was tough to watch for sure. Clearly something is off with them right now and it feels like it’s mostly the same experience right now.
Okay so the more I am reading about this the more I am inclined to agree. It definitely seems like something is off. I genuinely wish the best for her though, she deserves the success!
Turnstile was so good tonight my goodness. I’m not a diehard but they absolutely owned that building tonight. The drum solo lmao, so sick. Snail Mail was good, not amazing. Good mix of songs. Second night in a row at Roadrunner though where the opener was a really good band in their own right (Slow Pulp opening for Alvvays on Friday), and both nights I felt like the opener got real shafted on the mix. Didn’t feel like whatever sound issues people have been describing from her other sets on the tour, but just kind of shitty to have the headliners so much louder and with clearer guitars and stuff.
I like Snail Mail’s music a lot. Though her online presence AND her throwing shade at Phoebe last year really turns me off. Then she doubled down on her shade about that Phoebe tweet and didn’t apologize.
One of the most fun shows I’ve ever been to last night. Also thought Snail Mail was really good, none of the stuff that had cropped up as complaints at prior shows were present for this one. And the crowd seemed generally into it.
