Together Pangea’s DYE is another record that’s AOTY material btw

If you play these three Fiddlehead songs in a row it makes for a great adventure:

Grief Motif > The Years > Loverman

I saw someone say that Hostage Calm wrote GLOW ON 10 years ago with their self titled album, and while I don't think that's totally accurate, I do think that it does a lot of the "hardcore band writing more melodic songs" stuff that GLOW ON does. Definitely worth revisiting if you haven't listened to that record in a while, or never listened before.

Die On Stage maybe closer to Glow On?

No, IMO Die On Stage moved even further away from hardcore to where there basically weren't any traces of it. It was still underneath the covers on the self titled. I like Die On Stage more tbh.

EDIT: I got Die On Stage and Please Remain Calm confused, the answer still stands though.

Tbh neither really sounds like Glow On, but the one the OG tweeter is referring to is Please Remain Calm

S/T is closer to Glow On than any of the other two HC records mentioned. Two different sounding records obviously, but songs like “rebel fatigues” and “balance/stones” go for a similar sort of vibe. Hostage Calm’s last two records are decent, but more streamlined, and I think lack a lot of the qualities that make the S/T so refreshing and unique.

Nah I was referring to the Self Titled. @cherrywaves did a good job explaining above why you could see a similarity. More in vibe than a 1 to 1 sound comparison.

Last year, I was looking to fill my Hostage Calm collection with Please Remain Calm and was shocked to see pretty much all of the LPs averaging for less than $5 on Discogs. Weird that the band feels lost to time.

I really feel like they were a little too early. When they were at their "peak" everyone wanted straight up pop punk. I think the scene now is way more accepting of bands that grow out of that sound. I think Title Fight and Turnover gaining more popularity when moving on from their "punk" stylings was a big turning point, and if they were still around at that time, I think they would've gained more popularity. I feel the same about The American Scene.
