it is ironic i turn the conversation toward production when people have recently criticized me for talking about and caring about music production so much lol
my favorite thing in the world is to make a very small complaint about a new album on chorus and watch the whole site immediately turn on me as if I just admitted to murdering my family
this place is truly baffling but obviously i enjoy it or else i wouldn't be here 12 years running lol
I decided to check it out because of the hype around here. Was blown away by everything going on with this specific album. Probably has to do with me only hearing this album from the band and essentially the genre. it’s something that makes me want to come back to and pick piece by piece.
I still like the tradition of sitting down towards the end of the year and thinking about the music that really moved me during that period of time, but it’s become less and less important to me over the years.
I really like this but I’d be hard pressed to say this was my AOTY, much less my hardcore/post-hardcore AOTY (That belongs to Fiddlehead or Quicksand imo)
I honestly don’t know how I would rank Turnstile’s discography at this point. Each record has its own vibe that depending on my mood is perfect for me. Like yeah, Glow On is amazing, but I’m sure there’s gonna be times I want it heavier so Nonstop Feeling and/or Time & Space will be the move. I love all their records. I love this band.
This record has the same vibes as browsing late might TV in the 90’s, flicking through brutal horror scenes, blockbuster action pieces and tender romance.
House music last night at TSSF was just the album front to back during 25 min changeover. Great choice
I saw a comment that "Fly Again" could fit on late 90s alt-radio in between a 311 and P.O.D. song and now I cannot unhear that. I know that comparisons are almost as arbitrary as AOTY / album ranking chat - however, I do love that Turnstile seems to be an amalgamation of a lot of "rock" influences as opposed to just a straightforward "hardcore" band. And on top of that, they sound like they are having so much FUN, which is missing from a lot of rock music these days.
This band has a surprising number of projects they're involved in. Bendan plays drums in Trapped Under Ice. Angel Du$t is like a sick lil TUI/Turnstile super group. A couple of them were in Diamond Youth as well. And Daniel played drums in Praise and Mindset.
Can’t remember which song but there’s a super blatant part somewhere on this album that instantly clicked for me when I thought of janes addiction as a reference point haha. super obvious and super cool
