Their last album wasn't my favorite. I do like the progression here though. Wait Too Long is my favorite of the two. Mountains Made of Clouds has a Beatles vibe to me.
I miss when this band sounded like several of the other sounds they’ve done before (punk, indie, rock, shoe gazey, dreamy). It is their “art” though.
Hahaha so true. They hit a real sweet spot between emo and shoegaze on PV. This new stuff can be okay at times but generally is a little underwhelming and idk... flaccid
Unfortunately I feel the more they experiment the less interested I become. I thought Good Nature was a good follow up to PV. I tried and tried with Altogether and just could not get into it at all. A handful of good songs but as a whole... just not what I loved about Turnover. We'll always have Peripheral Vision though. They can do whatever they want with their music. Just may not pull me in the way they used to pull me in. Have they done all three of their past albums with Will Yip? Might be time to venture out?
I liked all of their newer albums in a way, but I revisited PV this week, and wow how great was that album! Their best, gotta say.
Surprised to see all negative or simply lukewarm reactions to the songs. I do agree the older material is more interesting, but these songs and the last album have a place... just maybe not as high. For a long time I was mad they evolved in to the sound they had on PV from their very first stuff, so this is a band that is unafraid of changing it up totally and I’ve come to have a certain measure of respect for that. And to also give it time, revisit and be pleasantly surprised.
been thinking about this a little bit more... look, people grow up, tastes change, I get it. Can't blame these guys for moving on, and prefer when artists evolve their sounds. But the emo influence in PV added a little explosiveness and drive that I think was one of the record's secret ingredients in retrospect. They really dropped those elements from their sound and, while it makes for perfect background music, their new records are just not as engaging. PV has probably become my most listened-to album of all time, but I find myself just a casual fan when it comes to this new stuff.
