truly not good. still fw Wait too Long and People That We Know is a genuine hit, almost everything else made me want to eat drywall crazy how Austin went from this band's strength to just dragging it down with these super flat melodies, these songs really come alive when he's not the person singing
Idk, I feel like the music has always been the most interesting aspect of what they do and that covered for how boring the lack of vocal range was, now the music isn’t interesting so the vocals stand out more in a bad way
only really good vocals on this were the features. Too bad Brendan didn't just sing all of the title track. He bring so much more to the table in his one minute feature than anything Austin did throughout this whole album.
People We Know is my standout. But overall another sleepy Turnover record I don't vibe with as much as Peripheral Vision & Altogether.
I’m a fan of this also. I also get the style change not being everyone’s thing, but personally I think it’s a nice relaxing vibe. I’m generally a fan of the era of music this is influenced by, so I think that’s helping.
Honestly it’s not even the style change for me, it’s just that this is incredibly boring. Songs pretty much sound the same, Austin sounds like he hates being there, the synth sounds like trash. I enjoyed all of their previous albums, this one is just bad.
Initially I feel the same way. It doesn't feel like a huge departure, but the songs are just more boring to me personally this go 'round.
This would have been better as an EP since tracks like Fantasy, Queen in the River, and Pleasures Galore vibe pretty hard.
This is ok, I definitely find it more interesting than Altogether. The sequencing is weird though, almost seems random
I agree. Tears of change opening up really taints the first impression. I may play around with the sequencing a bit to see if that helps. On my second and third listen im liking this a bit more.
I'm only one listen in but I felt zero flow here. Tears of Change is such a sleepy opener, Mountains Made of Clouds brings the momentum of the first half to a grinding halt, and then everything in the second half feels kinda plopped wherever. Everything shares the same sonic DNA obviously, it was just a jarring listen due to the way it's sequenced
Yeah if we are just talking about standalone songs, I very much dislike Mountain Made of Clouds. Prolly my least fav on the album.
I'm going to need a few more listens to digest this, but my first impressions weren't very positive. The only song I remember after a first listen was the title track.
1. Wait too long 2.myself in the way. 3. People 4. Pleasures 5. Stove reprise 6. Aint love heavy 7. Fantasy 8. Queen Sounds and flows way better without tears and mountains. Those two songs kill the vibe.
I’ve had this album for a few months, and I recommend listening in a room with lava lamps and colorful lights. And just get lost in it.
This is sooooo boring, and they already have an incredibly boring live show so this album being in the mix will not help that at all hahaha.
