Magnolia is more than just a stereotypical pop-punk album. I mean, if you listen to their first EP they sound exactly like The Story So Far and Knuckle Puck, but then they came out with something totally different on Magnolia that really telegraphed what they were going to become on PV and, later, GN. The lyrics and the performances, are all head and sholders above a lot of their contemporaries. Magnolia holds up very well.
Finally got some sunny weather here in MI and people start talking in the Turnover thread...perfect time to throw on GN. thanks guys.
Magnolia is a great record, and Most Of The Time and Bloom at particularly brilliant. I wish they rewrote them so they could be played live.
Oh man would I love to see some of Magnolia played live, even just 1 or 2 songs. Why would they have to be rewrote to be played live?
I saw them in a tiny room with 50 people on a bill of I Am The Avalanche, Turnover just before the Blue Dream EP, Major League between their two albums, and Moose blood just before I'll Keep You In Mind. Fantastic show. They require entirely different equipment to play than the new stuff so they can't really lug it all around.
Yeah Magnolia weirdly pulled me in back in 2013, didn’t expect to like anything like it at that time but the melodies are pretty outside of what other pop punk bands were doing.
They could definitely throw a Magnolia or Blue Dream song in their set to make it a little interesting
I don't think I've ever seen a band go "you know what, thank you I think we'll play that one instead"
eh it's just a joke, not like I actually expect them to play it. I just appreciate old Turnover stuff too
I saw Less Than Jake once and a friend of mine wouldn't stop yelling Al's War to the point where the band and even myself were getting annoyed But then they played it and brought him on stage to sing it with him so that was awesome As far as Turnover though, they take the Sasha thing as a joke now. Last time I saw them they said "This song is called Sasha" and then played Cutting My Fingers Off
It would be funny if they actually did play Freebird. It's a 9 minute song and it would piss everybody off if they just went "Ok, here goes 9 minutes wasted"
There is one recorded incident. At the 2004 Warped Tour I screamed for "I Was The Devil For One Afternoon" to Pierre from Boys Night Out and they played it. But I think it was on the setlist anyway, so let's call it a wash.
I remember watching Still Remains waaaayyyy back in the day and one of my friends told me to yell out a song request so I did. The singer responded with something along the lines of "Sorry man, it's not in the cards tonight" lol
I’ve seen moneen do it. Sounded perfect. Sometimes bands need to please fans (I don’t mean the one annoying yelling person, but they can sense if the crowd rallies behind it). I don’t like the yelling person at shows
Saw a comment on one of the live in Manila YT vids that said not yet when someone asked if it was an official release. Would love if this was put out
