Honestly, the bridge/end of Sunshine Type is the song on this that I most often catch myself replaying in my head lately.
Butterfly Dream is my favourite so far but I love Sunshine Type, Curiosity, Pure Devotion and the final track a lot too.
Really loving this. Encapsulates a totally different vibe/world than pv did and that's totally fine by me. Sometimes the album's that you can float away with are just as rewarding as the ones that immediately grab you.
After first listen I feel like PV is better but that's just one listen. This just feels so dreamy. Floating on clouds.
I'm kind of bummed cause this release is gonna be a bit overshadowed by Brand New's bomb drop. Which is upsetting cause I like this album a lot more than Science Fiction.
I played through this album like 20 times before Science Fiction came out. Thoroughly enjoy it and I can't wait to see them on tour next month. But Science Fiction to me is in another stratosphere. That being said, a few pages back someone was complaining about Brand New being mentioned here, so I'll keep it hush hush.
Three listens in an I feeling what other have said. It all really sounds the same and is way less catchy than PV. But the whole thing still has a really cool vibe and I like it.
I remember feeling PV was all the same when on my first few listens and then as I continued to listen, everything started to feel more distinct. I'm on listen 15-or-so of Good Nature and I now find myself randomly humming melodies of the different songs. In my opinion, it will sit around the same level of appreciation as PV. My stand out songs are definitely Sunshine Type, Curiosity, Pure Devotion, and Living Small. All That It Ever Was has this weird Beatles vibe that I'm unsure about, but that's the only part of the record that strikes me as "odd".
The more I listen the more I disagree about songs sounding the same, which is funny because my initial impression at the listening party was it blended too much. While he is definitely singing in the same register here, the actual melodies on the songs are definitely different and stronger than the melodies on their previous releases in my opinion. I'll be keeping this in rotation with BN so I don't overplay it haha
Not arguing anyones opinions or whatever but I don't understand that viewpoint of this album not being catchy.... I mean Butterfly Dream alone is as catchy as anything off PV
I think it's possible it might take a few more listens for some people and then things will start to get stuck in their heads, Curiosity, Butterfly Dream, Bonnie and a few others are to me undeniably catchy at this point, reminds me of some 90s or early 2000 stuff that I can't put my finger on
Finally listened to this...I can definitely see where everyone is coming from that is saying it blends together on the first listen. However, I've had Super Natural and Sunshine Type stuck in my head every day at some point until now so I'm expecting it each song will start to separate from each other after a few listens. Suuuper chill vibes though, loving that...now I understand why people are calling it the "sister" to PV, perfect analogy IMO.
I was at a friend's last night and asked him to put this on. He couldn't. Why? It's not out til the 25th. In all the madness, I completely forgot that this record leaked so early. The listening parties really buggered up their release schedule I think. I love the album, played it religiously. But it's sort of lost its steam for me at the moment, and it isn't even out yet. That's such a shame.
This will fit nicely into the rotation for people who aren't overly enamored with Brand New in general. (Like me)
That is unfortunately my mindset at the moment haha. Seeing Turnover next month though, and the vinyl will arrive in a few days. That'll kickstart my enthusiasm for it once more no doubt!
It's important to realize that not everyone has the same musical tastes. I think BN is good but I don't see it has some amazing release that everyone needs to hear. Might make my top 5. Enjoying Turnover way more right now.
I don't think there's anybody here on this predominantly music-based site who assumes we all have the same musical tastes. @teebs41 and I frequent the BN thread - he was just referencing our love for it, not implying that everybody here has to enjoy it as much as Turnover.
I think the brand new record has way more dynamic contrast than this record which is something thats really important to me when listening to music. It's why Brand New, Manchester, and thrice are my favorite bands. however the guitar voicings and the vocal phrasing on this turnover record are amazing. I could still see it in my top 10 I just can't bring myself to listen to anything else right now.
