I think everyone’s favorite Turnover album is whichever one is in their preferred style. The band is good at recreating whatever style they are interested in at the time but I don’t know if I’d be comfortable saying one is objectively better than the others. Altogether is my least favorite of their last 3 but I don’t think it’s a reflection of it’s quality. Also PV has a lot of sentimental value to me which puts it ahead of the rest.
I also think both GN and Altogether are better than PV, but it feels like they may be writing a check they can’t cash with this stuff. Felt this way about the second, and tbh some of third Citizen records as well. They’re wandering further outside the box and I’m not really sold on them being interesting or bold enough to pull it off, especially not with how these singles are kind of shoving their melodic strengths to the wayside That said it’s two songs and they’ve been out for like two hours haha. Remaining cautiously optimistic about the eventual record, and hoping these songs find a place in my more passive listening moods
Good Nature would probably be my favorite of the dream pop stuff but PV holds a special place in my heart.
I really enjoy these two songs, but I also really enjoyed Altogether. Wait Too Long does kind of sound like Altogether Part 2, but the synth adds a cool touch. I think Mountains Made of Clouds is pretty different though and I'm into that direction for them.
Not really into the 2 new songs. Hopefully not fully representative of the new album. I loved PV and GN. Altogether has some solid moments but this sounds like they are focusing more on the pieces I got bored by on Altogether
Me and my wife always say Turnover sounds like hanging out at the lake, especially Good Nature. It's not a bad thing.
Not sure I agree with the opinion that the first song sounds like something from the last record. Feels a little bit more summary, and I love his use of falsetto. Second song definitely sounds like Tame Impala. I like both
that EP with Sasha and PV are the only 2 Turnover releases I've been into at all, i think. these new songs are way too snoozy for my taste. might be good have on while hammocking in the mountains this summer though, i guess.
Liking the new songs. I like that they are always moving forward with their sound and not making the same thing twice (as much as I love PV.
For the fans of PV, Check out the new Valleyheart album that is dropping tomorrow. I think you guys will love it.
Sad that this band doesn’t do it for me anymore. I LOVE Peripheral Vision and was into GN too. Now it’s just not for me sadly.
Peripheral Vision was the last thing I liked. Magnolia is still my favorite. I’m glad to see that they’re still at it and that so many people love their newer stuff but sadly it’s just not for me.
said this in the song thread, but I think Turnover really lost some drive, explosiveness, and dynamic contrast when they ditched the emo influences after PV. I actually still enjoy their music, but it's definitely a little bit flat and not as engaging. Perfect background/studying music, though.
Listened to GN today and it’s a great progression from PV without ditching the sound. I kind of miss that vibe on these new songs
They kind of lost me with altogether but I’m digging the new songs. Love the guitar in “Wait Too Long”
I feel like this band's music could be so much better received if they released, like, one or two 7'' records like this every year. I loved everything up to the last album, which I've genuinely been unable to get through in full even once. They write really delightful songs that have a lot of subtlety to them and benefit from repeat listens, but putting out a full album of that, and then going quiet for several years, and then doing it again... it's hard to stay engaged, IMO
