I definitely think that’s Disney plan with D+ and it makes sense, why not put your risky movie up to watch at home, especially considering the user base you have subscribing to the service, and save it from bombing at the box office?
Hell, I’d be so forward to say that this movie probably wouldn’t even be popular until it hit Plus anyway, doubt a lot of the people who’re hyping this up on Twitter/Reddit/whatever would’ve paid to go see this in theaters and would’ve waited they could stream it.
The takes that this would have bombed - I just don’t see what’s there to support that. Up until the pandemic, Pixar had a great track record. Their last original pre-pandemic movie, “Coco” made almost a billion dollars. “Onward” did well for the couple of weeks it was in theaters. I don’t think “Soul,” “Luca” and this would have made “Batman” money, but I still think they would do pretty well, as most Disney stuff has.
I was definitely excited to see it with my A list and bummed when I didn't have that opportunity and I know I'm not the only one
the only anachronism is that Twilight was 05 and not 02 I like that the Jewish character had braces how are GA 4 town tickets $200 in the early 2000s, and how did the concert not sell out months in advance and was announced like 2 weeks before I love that this is just Goofy movie but with generational trauma before this came out I was gonna joke about her staying a panda forever
This movie made me really think about how often people in movies and tv shows just walk up and buy tickets the day of a huge concert. In real life those tickets would’ve been sold out day 1 haha
My wife was saying this exact thing to me while we were watching. “Why aren’t these sold out already? No way.” “So the magic panda - “ *waves hand* “Yeah yeah yeah. No way those tickets are still available.”
Oh my!!! Wow. What else can be said. This was great. Top tier, A+ Pixar. What Pixar does so well is it takes basic story ideas and they don't go the normal route. I was worried it was gonna be a while movie of her "hiding her powers" and going through the motions of hiding it, Yada yada...but no! Everyone knows about it and let's go with that it. So refreshing. So damn good. Its on the coco, walle list
Absolutely loved this. The humor and visuals were so energetic throughout, and it just really resonated with me. Love seeing all the anime influence.
Just watched this - the perfect film for Mother’s Day it seems (UK Mother’s Day is today before anyone freaks out). Great film.
My kids loving this is really working out for me because I get an excuse to watch it a couple times a week.
Yeah, I don’t mind watching this every day as much as I mind watching shitty sequels on Disney Plus. Looking at you Little Mermaid 2.
