However I’m sorrrry but I loved the finale lol. The episode worked for me and I dug the explanation of the Tsalal deaths.

I liked this, but would prefer a bit more clarity on the supernatural. The Inuit women were still talking about a “her” out there, and called Annie K “her daughter”, and it’s clear something terrified the men. Is “her” just supposed to be Mother Nature? Because Clark seemed convinced Annie was around, and the tongue showed up.

Then there was the small bit there after Clark died where Navarro has the vision. I don’t know if I interpreted it wrong, but to
me it looked like we were getting a bit of a time loop of sorts there where the seizure Clark had was him getting a glimpse of the future and literally seeing Navarro standing there. Like to me it looked like he looked right at Navarro, then the seizure stopped and he dimmed and turned around to say “she’s awake” and etc.

Like I like that they left it open to it being supernatural, but I needed a bit more. I need more info on what the supernatural is. Navarro sees ghosts? What was the place she kept going to where she apparently saw both her mom and Holden? And what’s with the spiral? Etc

I also thought a time loop situation was gonna come into play when she saw Clark again

My biggest issue was Jodie coming out a blizzard/under ice combo and absolutely glowing when she’s talking to the indigenous women.

yeah between that and the end of episode 4 never getting addressed again, this season has big 90s “eh we don’t need to explain that just accept it” show/movie energy haha

It held my attention. Had some dumb choices, but mostly I had a good time. So, it’s True Detective.

this season was bad imo! or more accurately an okay 90-minute mystery padded out to miniseries length with a bunch of middling-to-okay shit

the reveal of the actual killers was fine, and I liked the True Detectives letting them get away with it in the end, but are we seriously supposed to believe they didn't ever sweep the station for prints at any point? how bad are these cops lmao. speaking of which all the time we spent watching the bodies thaw out, everything with Eccleston's character was a complete waste of time and went nowhere. did they ever explain what the deal with Twist and Shout actually was, was it playing when Holden died or something? I burst out laughing when the slow cover of it came on while Danvers instantly got over all her emotional issues, good lord that was corny

the lack of resolution on the tongue 100% feels like they had a spooky tease they couldn't figure out how to resolve so they lampshaded it with the "not part of our story" shit. same with the lack of clarity on the supernatural stuff. I don't mind a bit of ambiguity if done right but this felt lazy as hell. also trying to sell me on Navarro turning into some kind of spiritual figure lmao, I'm sorry but that is the most emotionally unhealthy guru of all time! I will say the implied timeloop thing was actually cool and quite unsettling to me. a much better suggestion of a s1 link than just copying its most famous line of dialogue, or worse hitting us over the head with "ASK THE RIGHT QUESTION" 5 times a fucking episode

It’s kind of weird this wasn’t better, right? HBO budget, incredible setting, interesting plot broad strokes, some good casting choices. I don’t regret watching it and don’t think it was a disaster, but some competent script editing alone could have made this really good.

feels like it was fine as its own thing and was forced into the TD universe literally last minute. the spirals, Tuttle namedrops, the Rust connection all added absolutely nothing if not actively detracting from the main plot. a rare HBO W

I thought most of the episode was dumb but I did like how they ended up dying, that was satisfying and much better than it being anything supernatural.

Overall a disappointing season, very easily my least favourite.

A season of True Detective coming back from an average second and third season after a long wait, set in a research lab in Alaska with Jodie Foster should have been harder to mess up than not.

Instead we got something that should have had 2 or 3 more script drafts. It says a lot about the detective story when it's not bothered about it's own central mystery. Just really bad TV.

it’s either implying that or navarro’s ghost is watching over danvers, both of which are offensive to the viewers intelligence lol

Danvers: Nah go ahead, kill the guy we’ve been looking for the whole show even though he def has more information. Fuck it, we got 5 mins with him, I’m not gonna stop ya.

Wtf was that lol???? And then an hour later:

Danvers: You let him die? What the FUCK Navarro!

She will go down as a goat but Jodie screaming at Navarro to shut up about Holden was some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen
