Sorta random but I felt like the show Blackbird matches the tone and overall vibe of the best parts of s1 and s3. Honestly liked it more but that’s another conversation. I feel like there’s a lot of crossover appeal- in case anyone hasn’t seen it yet.
season 1 is great until it completely falls apart at the end season 2 is garbage season 3 is probably the best season 4 is just ok so far
I just started rewatching season 2 to see if it’s as bad as I remember and the writing in the first 5 minutes is so so bad.
I was waiting for the episode to really take off, and it never did. Guess we'll have to wait for the final two episodes
this thread has single handedly kept me from starting this season over the past weeks. sounds like it's just not worth it.
It’s not really just this thread tho. It’s not getting a great reception overall. There are a few in here who have been vocal about enjoying it.
It’s not “bad” per se, it’s just that they’re teasing, teasing, teaaaaaasssingg a supernatural element to the story, and we’re four episodes in with just a tiny taste of what’s up with this town. Having to setup all the supernatural stuff has seemed to take away from more of the case/detective stuff, which a lot of fans of the show seem to be more into
it is definitely not boring and it is technically sound. looks great and has some serious terror invoking moments. however, the script and storytelling is almost brutal at this point after 4 episodes. personally, there is nothing 'true detective' about this season aside from the carcosa shit that has been tremendously shoehorned in. hopefully they prove everyone who has been critical wrong and sticks an unforgettable landing, but my hopes are low. s1 is a masterpiece, s2 is fine, and s3 is great. feels bad to shit all over this when its obvious they put a lot of work into it, but it just feels like a shallow attempt at recreating the common mystifying elements the prior stories told.
It’s not bad but it’s not great. I’ve been enjoying it but I wouldn’t tell someone they absolutely need to watch it.
Personally, I’m enjoying it. It’s unique, I have no idea how it’s going to wrap, and the acting is good. I think it’s suffering from people who can’t help from putting it under a higher level of scrutiny because of its True Detective relation. And maybe, to a lesser extent, because people are less patient these days.
We’re about 4 hours into a 6 hour story I don’t think it’s a patience thing. I still blame the early reviews. Never trust those
There’s also the whole tendency these days to rate something as way worse than it is if it is anything less than phenomenal.
the last thing i would call this is unique tbh. it's extremely by-the-numbers, predictable even scene-by-scene.
that said, I also don't know how it's going to wrap up. so it's an interesting dynamic right now. i'd say it still has an opportunity to be decent-to-good (MAYBE even great) if they stick the landing
Really? What am I missing out there that’s got a murder mystery set in remote Alaska with supernatural undertones?
The mystery and the horror/ghostly elements are great and the acting is pretty good. For me, that’s good enough to keep me interested and entertained. The rest of everything, namely the character building and dialogue, is pretty cardboard and cookie cutter. It sucks because it holds it back from being great, but the mystery and spookyness is still fun.
