Oh my god lol they did a literal “DUN DUN DUN” sound cue as if they weren’t beating everyone on the head enough already.

from what I have read, its meant to show that he "finally found what he is looking for", as in finding Amelia and finding out what happened in the case. Since he was a tracker in the war.

I overall liked the season very much. I quite enjoyed the final "twist" with Julie

Maybe when Wayne sees the kids on bikes and the camera zooms in on his eye, he dies. The "proposal" and Vietnam scenes are supposed to be the best and worst of times, the heaven and hell which have framed his life since 1980.

Or, it's just him finally going back into the metaphorical wilderness after all of these years.

Oh my god, imagine having so little regard for your female characters that you give them HIV as a twist to make the men sad.

I haven’t been this bothered by every single bit of a story/production in a very long time.

And if this is really all that happened has no one heard of an anonymous tip?? Like are you kidding me?? You desperately want to be arrested at this point, but your conscience couldn’t get you to come up with a single plan to help them before now??

Ahahahahahahaha come on now dude. Call your BFF before you go running off full tilt, you can wait a few minutes. Or what a shocking thought, you could write it down so if you go all Memento on us at least Roland will have some idea what’s going on.

I like the idea of him going to the house and seeing her being happy and healthy and him knowing to not stir anything up with questions or try to be some kind of savior.

What I don't like it how they got to that point. It really feels like he just couldn't be bothered to sit and stew on the overall story and themes and come up with a better way of them finding her and the truth of what happened. Instead, he sticks that exposition scene in as if it's a beautiful bow on top of a wonderful present but in reality it seems like a lazy, slapdash gift bought on the way to the party at a 7/11. "Uhh, here you go, hope you like it." Well, I didn't like it.

I still think it's worth watching overall, but I'd probably tell people to go into it knowing that the finale was disappointing to me.

Yeah, I’m 100% out on anything this dude does in the future. So, so, so much of this was completely wasted and unearned. They could have dropped the ENTIRE plot about the documentary, which is supposedly why all this is even happening, and nothing would change. And considering that they want to act like his relationship with his wife is the only thing that matters, they sure went out of their way to portray them absolutely hating each other throughout the whole season.

I’m just so let down from beginning to end. I need a palate cleanser.

If there was any significance to that final shot of Hays in the jungle I missed it completely. I honestly could not figure out what the hell that had to do with anything.

7+ hours of withholding vast amounts of information both relevant and not relevant to the central disappearing children case & teasing the audience about a mystery, while also leaving out almost any character development for anyone other than Wayne Hays, and bludgeoning us over the head with red herring after red herring to then decide to have an exposition dump ⅔ of the way through the finale where one character explains everything that happens in conversation to our leads is honestly pretty piss poor. This was akin to a production where every single person who worked on it was supremely professional and Oscar-caliber but the script was written by a high school kid.

If we, the audience, are supposed to feel unsatisfied and without closure to mirror the experience of Hays and West, a more satisfying way of handling that would be to have Hays come to the theory comprised of most of the information Junius Watts dumped on us in that scene in his own head, but be unsure of whether he trusts his own mind enough anymore to believe his own theory when everyone else involved points to vastly different conclusions. Hell, they could have had a scene where Old Hays and Old West were sitting at a bar and Old Hays lays out his theory to Old West or something like that. Having the ENTIRE CASE cleanly explained to the two leads by one character in one scene was weak as hell, as was them literally saying to each other “I don't feel closure, do you?”

After three seasons of TD now, my take on Pizzolatto is that he's a talented writer who can be very difficult to work with and thinks he is some kind of master level auter like a Kubrick and he completely discounts or ignores what other talented people bring to the production. Season 1 had Cary Joji Fukunaga as the director of the entire season, Matthew McConaughey in the midst of the McConaissnce and Woody Harrelson who I've always felt is a bit underrated as an actor, with all 3 of them I believe in some kind of producer or executive producer roles as well.

I have a feeling if Jeremy Saulnier or Cary Fukunaga had directed this finale they both would have had major battles with Pizzolatto about how some of this was being resolved and playing out and working or not working as the case may be.

I gotta talk about the dog scene:

I have no problem with the idea of a broken man finding or rescuing a dog and that leading to him being rehabilitated in some way, but the way they portrayed it was so hamfisted and lame. He started saying "We're..." and I was just cringing hoping he wouldn't say some stupid shit like, "We're both strays!!!" or something equally dumb, so thank god they didn't actually go that far, but the result was still just eye-rolling.

I feel more emotionally compelled by that post than the entirety of this season. Lol.

I agree with everything you said very strongly except for NP being a talented writer. I think the writing is on the wall that he is “acceptable” at best and totally undoes what talent he has by having an inflated ego and delusions of grandeur. He should never be given a project again where he has creative control.

Years from now, if this season is even remembered, everyone will look to that scene and wonder how the general consensus could be that this was well written.

I didn't hate it, but I was supremely let down.

This entire season has been an acting powerhouse showcase. I haven't seen Green Book and I really don't think I ever will, but it was cool to hear about Mahershala Ali winning an Oscar while watching the finale to this season of TD, because I would say he absolutely deserves that Oscar based on this show alone and nothing else. The guy is absolutely incredible. It truly felt as though you were watching the same man decades apart. Stephen Dorff more than held his own acting opposite Mahershala, and had a few scenes where he legit almost brought me to tears.

I got the impression it was just his self-destructive way of dealing with the most important relationship in his life completely falling apart.

Some people just go looking for a fight and don't need a reason why.

Not saying that it was good or bad writing, but there are plenty of idiots like that in the world, haha
