I haven't seen the newest episode yet (watching it tonight), but jumping in to say that long tracking shot from season one seriously is amazing.

I’m still watching, but as we get into it more it seems like their reach is really exceeding their grasp. A lot of the lines also seem really on the nose and not true to the time period, just written to be ironic or clever watching from the current era. Mahershala is definitely great in all of it though.

I would've said the cousin before last night's episode, but now I'm wondering if maybe he and Lucy were working together. At one point last night she said "children should laugh," a phrase which appeared on the note from the beginning of the season. Maybe both of them ended up dead because they could implicate people higher up the food chain. I wouldn't be surprised if the Attorney General is in some way connected to Hoyt Chicken as well.

Last night's direction was decent, but I think the first couple episodes were better in that regard. Though, I think the Fukunaga episodes are still the best directed ones of this series. The season 1 tracking shot is phenomenal.

Does anybody have a screen cap of Hayes hallucination from the last nights episode. There was like a woman that appeared on the screen for only like a second and then didn't show up anymore, thought it was strange. Was hoping someone grabbed it

Man Stephen Dorff has been so great. Anyone else think Wayne’s son, Henry was the other person in the room with the reporter?

There was one man in a suit, and the rest were Viet-Cong (people he has killed maybe?)

Enjoyed the episode, though it's probably my least favorite so far.

I'm wondering if the incident at the end somehow leads to the case closing prematurely.

No there’s someone else. They’re very tall and has a huge gunshot in the head. After rewatching it I think it might be the Native American soldier. I can’t remember his name.

    Got a screenshot, top left.

I'm pretty sure Henry was the one with her. She's probably just using him for info on her piece. Maybe it isn't just about the case specifically, but the bigger picture and how the case affected Wayne's life. Or, maybe it's actually about Wayne specifically and how he covered something up in one of the investigations, probably the one in 1990.

I think it's a woman, and not Woodard. Those are probably all people whose deaths he's responsible for, so maybe she was a civilian he killed in Vietnam. The man with the suit could be linked to his fear of death by tie strangulation.

When I watched the episode initially I thought the 'ghost' with the long dark hair and bullet hole in the forehead was the one he reaches out to touch and say "I'm sorry" to, but I went back and rewatched that scene and to me it looks like he touches a different 'ghost' - a man with short hair and a wound somehere else who never really looks up and whose face remains obscured by shadow / dark.

Yeah I thought it was a woman at first too but they are rather tall. Every detail seems so deliberate on this show and none of the other people seem to have glaring bullet holes. Just thought it was odd. Could be nothing though.

Interesting. I’ll rewatch that scene again for more detail.

I think there’s something to the scene at dinner (1980) where it’s jist a close up on Wayne and he says something like “I have a mental defect.” Feel like that’s a clue to us that implicates him for something big.

Ooh, good point. It seems like he's just talking about with relationships in general, but it could be a much bigger implication. Maybe Wayne did more than just withhold evidence? I'd also wager that he doesn't remember what he did, either.

There is something going on with this Hoyt Foods Processing plant I think. It has come up a couple times already and we know Lucy used to work there - who it’s hard not to have more doubts about after the way she acted in the last episode.

  16. Y'all are a lot more perceptive than me. I would've forgotten a lot of the lingering clues if they weren't mentioned in here ha. So much intrigue with this season, and yet it doesn't feel convoluted or hard to follow. I'm loving it.

I think Hoyt is definitely connected in some way. The company itself could be behind things, or maybe just a rogue individual. Maybe the owner's wife, as I believe they mentioned she'd recently lost her daughter. Maybe she was trying to take Julie as a replacement, and Julie was all to willing to go because their home life was a mess? Will finds out she's gone (Freddy mentions that Will was looking for his sister when he left his bike behind), and then ends up dead as a result. Maybe the same people who took Julie kill him. Or maybe Julie kills him (and later kills the cousin because he likely abused her when he was staying with them)?

At this point I think either it’s an absolutely massive townwide conspiracy or something just totally random and all this is a red herring.

I'm pretty sure drunk Scoot McNairy was referring to his wife having sex with her boss at Hoyt's Foods, not her boss at the bar who must've been one of those guys standing there in the room who roughed him up a bit.

That's what I took that to mean, too. I wonder if he's referring to the owner, or someone lower down the food chain like Lucy's direct supervisor?

I know there are downsides to binge-watching shows, but I do have trouble keeping track of the intricacies of mystery shows like this by the time the next week rolls around. With this season specifically I find myself getting confused about which timeline things happened in by the time I am watching the new episode. I would love to re-watch the episodes leading up to the new one being aired but I don't have that kind of time. I've been watching parts as like a refresher.

This adds up. I also remember in the 2nd episode Scoots' mother hinting that maybe one of the children was a product of an affair? I'd have to rewatch but I swear something like that happened at the funeral.

Maybe that's why the boss at Hoyt takes an interest in helping to find Julie? Because there's a possibility it's actually his daughter?

I feel like this season is doing a lot of obvious misleading in terms of the suspects. The Native American trash man, the teenage boys, the black man w/ one dead eye. It seems to me that none of them are responsible for the murder or abduction. The formula for this show would suggest that we have already seen the killer/abductor on-screen at this point in the season. I just don’t think it’s any of the people I mentioned above.
