Episode 3 was phenomenal. Honestly, I didn't feel the change in directors at all. Mahershala Ali's performance is f---ing incredible so far, but I am almost as impressed with Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff who don't have quite as much to do but really make the most of their roles. I love the relationship between the two detectives so far.
I’m seeing a lot of similarities between this season and the debut season of Castle Rock, mostly in its depiction of memory loss. Not necessarily a bad thing, though the structural issues of that show ended up being too ambitious to realistically work for me. It’s all been great thus far though. I did admittedly feel a little lost at the episode’s start— the dialogue during the Walgreens parking lot scene felt somewhat contrived, but it picked right back up afterward.
True Detective: An Early, Compelling Theory Promises Heartbreak Good read...spoilers beware Edit: spoilers meaning dont read until you watch ep3
Interesting indeed. I was not thinking about that as a possibility. I was thinking more the memento route. Both excite me though. This season is great.
I think the ending I want the least is something like "it never happened" or like, a shutter island type ending, because right now that seems to me like that most obvious route. I definitely think his memory loss will play a huge part in the eventual outcome, but I don't necessarily want it to be THE thing. If that makes sense. No complaints at all about this so far after 3 eps.
I hope the pay off is gonna be worth it and also isn’t so goofy like season 1. I wouldn’t want it to be a case of it never happening or his wife being the one doing the murders either. they’re somewhat interesting ideas but I think either would just feel cheap to me
what did you find goofy about season 1? (legitimately curious, not being a jerk lol) I am trying to remember the ending but it's been so long since I watched it haha
everything about the final encounter with the murderer in his house just felt kinda goofy to me but in all fairness: it has been a while since I’ve watched season 1
I also could see that being the case. Though in the 1990 Walgreens scene she seemed genuinely surprised to hear Wayne reveal that Julie is alive. Of course, that could just be her character playing the part, as anyone not involved in the abduction would be expected to react that way. Amelia being responsible would also explain why Wayne may have covered things up during the investigation. I think there's also a possibility that 2015 Wayne's mental state is resulting in recollections that aren't actually accurate. In the first episode he mentions that Amelia died recently, but later he looks at a picture of himself and the kids that looks to be from closer to 1990, and Amelia is missing. Perhaps she actually dies far earlier than he's remembering?
part of me really wants to not watch until the rest of the episodes are available for me to binge, but the other part of me forgot how crazy the week between show episodes can feel sometimes, the anticipation is so much better. binge watching has really ruined that dramatic build-up in shows.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for tone over action but I thought the confrontation in Carcosa was hella awesome, and everything from the hospital until the very end is simply gorgeous imo.
I concur. Season 1 ended absolutely perfectly for me. No complaints at all. I think that may come down to the fact that I don't go too too crazy with trying to figure the mystery out ahead of time. Obviously I'll have thoughts as to what I think might be going on, but I actively try not to go too far down those types of rabbit holes. In my experience it usually leads to disappointment when all is said and done. I enjoy the mystery and trying to solve the case so-to-speak, but it's only one part of the experience - I love the atmosphere and the characters and everything else just as much.
Man the end of season 1 as garbage. I won't watch this new season until I know it doesn't end so terribly.
going back and watching Season 2 for the first time about four episodes in and it's surprisingly pretty good hope I'm not wasting my time
They built up to such a weird and complex ending. To have it be a gardener who speaks in a British accent and fucks his sister was such a let down.
