The same thing I expect from any genre: something interesting and not boring as hell. Is one of those songs the one where he invited a transphobic piece of shit to do some spoken word about self-love and forgiving himself? It's not so much that he "ripped off" the album he worked on. It's that he tries to do multiple things on this album that were done better by a more talented artist 10 years ago.
Honestly I don't even mind about Travis' lyrical output, he's primarily a party/vibe guy and that's perfectly fine, there's plenty of other artists that I don't go to for lyrics. I just wish the actual songs on this were more interesting lol, like there's spurts here and there but as a whole for how momentous of an album this is supposed to be, it feels lacking.
It baffles me that you would write this much about an album you were clearly predisposed to dislike. A lot of the best songs on this are just a further refinement of what he's been doing for 3 albums (Til Further Notice, FE!N and I Know are my favorites). Don't understand why people expect innovation from someone who's entire brand is making extremely marketable trap music. As a longtime fan I think what is refreshing is not that he is reinventing the wheel (he's not), but that he is incorporating familiar influences in a way that is new for his music specifically.
Is it too bold to say this exceeded my expectations as far as him straying from his core sound at all?
I had pretty low expectations going in so maybe that’s why I really enjoyed it. Most Rap albums this year have been pretty underwhelming for me so that’s why I went in with low expectations.
I personally just wasn’t a big fan of his previously, he was never my go to, I was more of a Young Thug/Uzi guy but this is just so satisfying in a musical way I can’t fully describe, so many memorable moments, Travis can rap a bit better than I thought despite the subject matter not being special but that’s not what I listen to these style albums for
There’s no rehabbing involved this time, there’s plenty of anti-semitic energy within hip hop culture, he’ll be fine. Really bad look for Travis but again, his core fans aren’t the ones trying to cancel or hold him accountable.
The rehabbing of Kanye absolutely does suck and is happening way too soon but I also feel that society rehabbing Travis in less than two years after Astroworld also sucked too. He’s already being speculated to headline festivals like Coachella and I just feel like he hasn’t learned his lesson yet. Maybe I’m wrong though.
“There is no Utopia without Kanye West. There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye.” Very cool
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/...hee-stallion-sentencing-statement-1234802373/ Tory literally shot Meg, tried to pay her off, and is still having associates and peers write the judge letters about his good character. Seriously, fuck ANYONE who ever works with this guy again, even though we know everyone in hip hop will continue to do so.
and the tour will sellout immediately. hip hop fans generally don’t care about any type of accountability.
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen you try to generalize all “hip-hop” fans like this and it honestly looks pretty weird. Would you say the same thing about “punk fans” or “pop fans?”
absolutely! Besides Tony from Mest stabbing someone we haven’t had an attempted murder lately in that scene. Still plenty of pieces of shit getting by though, I will say I do believe the pop-punk fan base does do a better job of cutting ties with problematic artists, as it seems we’re the one genre where fans do seem to care.
