  1. You literally asked for something that sounds fresh, I gave you a hip-hop album that sounds fresh to me. What do you want lol

The hubbub over the Pitchfork review made me vaguely curious about this, only 6 songs in so far

Why did they think God's Country worked with that beat lol

  6. Wasn't a complete stinker of a review but that Pitchfork guy is a clown. Constantly reviews hip hop albums but never gives above a 6.

    Alright just finished it

Yea I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Travis Scott fan (Astroworld is decent, enjoyed him enough live when I went to the Kendrick Damn tour) but this seems fairly mid. It's mostly inoffensive, some songs that I'm more positive about (Lost Forever, Looove), some songs I'm less positive about (God's Country). Beyonce song is disappointing because I know how much better she can do, still shocked he pretty much just did Black Skinhead 2. Overall, it honestly just feels like a collection of songs going for a vibe rather than an actual album. Which can be perfectly fine, just funny with how hyped Travis and this album has been.

  8. The version of God's Country he was playing live earlier on had the same verse but it sounded like the vocal take was a little more raspy/deep sounding, and the vocal performance on the studio version feels a bit weak in comparison. For example, when he says "God's country this is war", on the original live version he would pop scoop into the note that line starts on (F to G), whereas on the studio version he sings it straight (just a G note).

Just to see what you generally found to be fresh stylistically? To better understand what you would be looking for?

  10. I risk getting absolutely flamed for this take but I think Yeat is the closest new artist in this vein we've had to "fresh". Not that he's doing anything overly innovative but he's had a very strong influence since he blew up. He frequently collaborates with Working on Dying producer BNYX. BNYX is absolutely incredible at incorporating rock/emo influences into some of his beats, and I think that sound is very popular within trap right now. I am attaching a beat he posted that samples Superheaven's "Youngest Daughter" as well as two of my personal favorite Yeat tracks produced by him.

(fun fact, I created a mashup for my own personal enjoyment with this beat using vocals I isolated from the second song I shared, "Can't Stop It". Happy to share if anyone is interested)

I wasn't expecting this site to have a strong reaction to this album but as basically an OG Travis fan (literally been listening since Owl Pharaoh), I am EXTREMELY happy with this album. It's exactly what he needed to do, I actually think I would have been done with him if this sounded like the typical autotune singing shit that he's been defaulting to so much. Just the right level of experimentation and bringing his older feel back, and I'm really glad to hear him actually rapping so much on here too

BNXY is the fucking man and his whole sound is so fucking good. The whole Working on Dying production group is really pushing new sounds I think.

The Robb Bank$ - Falconia is another album from last year that is a fresh sound I think, BNYX is on it and I think Robb has done work with Working on Dying and learned from them.

He has production credits on 2 Yeezus songs and writing credits on none of them.

I think this is the most I've liked a Travis Scott project. There doesn't seem to be a lot of the autotune-y vocal effect thing that he does a lot and is offputting for me personally. Production good, decent effort.

There is a lot more similarities to Owl Pharoah then I expected on this which if I am not mistaken was also changed during the course of its production after the Yeezus sessions which is interesting to point out.

  20. Vince would have made a great feature on this record, maybe on a song like Lost Forever. Or if you replaced 21 Savage (whose verse I do still like) with him on Til Further Notice.

I really enjoy 21 Savage but I do think he was out of place on the closing track, I think it should have just been Travis and James Blake

    Got a light?

Conflicted about Travis as a person and some of his choices on the album but I can’t deny this shit completely blew me away, massive production, good mix of styles and flows, love a lot of the features
