I agree about J. Cole. I think the appeal for Travis comes more from the music/experience itself rather than his technical skill. If you compare his albums to his contemporaries in trap music like Young Thug, Future etc they feel a lot more cohesive. Like, all of the songs on Birds sound like they're on Birds (same goes for the other albums, that's just a lot of typing). Also, you have to consider his impact on fashion and pop culture. This year, he singlehandedly reignited the hype for Nike SB Dunk sneakers, most of which now have resale values that are twice what they were a year ago. Hell, I know a TON of people who went to the Astroworld tour not as Travis Scott fans, but merely to have fun with other friends.
I guess I just don’t get the latter. I must have not been paying attention when he made himself into a pop culture icon, and I can’t point to a specific piece of music that makes it click for me
If you don't like this song you won't like anything by Travis. Make sure you listen to the whole thing, there's a big beat change halfway through, the first half is really more of an intro to me but the whole thing is dope Probably his best song imo
