Travis Barker Tests Positive for COVID • Page 2

Discussion in 'Article Discussion' started by Melody Bot, Aug 19, 2022.

  1. I think the context of his hospitalization is important here. Just two months ago, he was hospitalized for “life-threatening” pancreatitis.

Is someone getting COVID in 2022 particularly newsworthy? No. Someone who is likely still recovering from another serious medical emergency? Yea. I think that's worth a post. This one is just missing that context.

This is unfortunately not very true, especially since there’s a long list of things besides death that can happen.

like, we just had two very large high profile studies drop last week about the long term effects mild illness is having on the heart and the brain.

I love when people admit they are extremists. Makes them look stupid without me having to even try.

When those things happen, that’s news. Basically everyone has had Covid at one point so reporting on it is just unnecessary. It’s just unnecessary pandering.

Well no, not basically everyone has had it, and it’s not pointless for a music website to report news on a high profile musician from the scene, who isn’t exactly known for being a picture of health, comes down with a virus that has tended to wreck the bodies of middle age folks who aren’t the pictures of health.

And if god forbid something serious happened to Barker 3 months from now related to covid, this would be…pretty important context to know he has covid a few months prior!

It's just weird to see it on a site like this of all places considering the demo of the website itself and the genre is covers.

Like, I'm sorry the cops showed up at your step-dad's house, Chad, but your neighbors don't want to listen to Fall Out Boy at 2 in the morning.

A website that started as a place for me to talk about punk music ... and not trusting authority ... doesn't seem like some huge stretch to me. Add in everything we've learned, and has surfaced, over the last ten years, and I'm more surprised these days when someone isn't distrustful.

No one is saying "omg they made me turn down my music" - we're saying: please stop killing people, harassing people, lying about it with impunity, stealing money, and if you're going to be grossly overpaid and over-militarized, maybe do your job if, say, a bunch of kids are being murdered.

In fact, I find the inability to understand, and emphasize with, the later viewpoint, a far more extreme position.

Yeah not sure how anyone could blindly praise police after all of the DOJ and FBI investigations finding outright bias, planting evidence, recruitment of white nationalists, etc

There are myriad jobs to help people that don’t involve bolstering such a deeply and inherently corrupt and oppressive organisation.

Thank you for your common sense. These replies are really stupid. I’ve had long Covid for awhile and it isn’t fun. I’m boosted and still got it.

the difference between people who are “over” Covid and those who aren’t is that the latter don’t need to be explicitly told the specific context and personal relevance of every story to know why it may be important. Similar to understanding why ACAB and why “not all cops” is dumb, actually.

  24. I live in Georgia, I’m used to the Covid denier dipshits but how can someone be a long-time user of this website and AP and be shocked at the anti-cop sentiment shared by the majority of its other users lol
