I am in Melaka, Malaysia. My massive bowl of noodles and curry was $4, my 15 minute Uber was $3, my 2 hour bus to Kuala Lumpur the day after tomorrow is $3, my hotel is $11/night. Almost everyone speaks great English. Highly recommend it. It was a four hour bus from Singapore to get here. I don’t regret going to SG, but oh my it was expensive. The food in Singapore was unsurprisingly great, but overall it’s a little sanitized and boring. Refreshingly clean compared to the rest of SEA but there’s so many Americans, Aussies, and Brits there. Too many pubs.
Any recs for Pittsburgh? I'm going from the 26th to the 1st with a buddy. Gonna do an emo night there at smiling moose on the Saturday. I like open karaoke if they have any places like that. Otherwise down to just check out cool restaurants and bars or see any games going on
Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburgh-Downtown 1247 Smallman St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 Was also looking at omni William but we are renting a car and Hampton Inn has free self parking
Touristy places I went to with my mom last year: Sintra's beautiful, Pena Palace and its grounds are cool to wander through. Nazare's a beach town with crazy big waves. Obidos is a historic, walled city that's worth a stroll. Don't forget to explore Lisbon itself.
Nazare and Obidos I hadn’t put on my list, thanks for the tips! Definitely will be exploring Lisbon a lot as well, it looks like an amazing city!
@djwildefire Cascais and Cabo da Roca (western-most point of continental Europe) are worth it if you have a car.
look up the major “miradouros” (viewpoints) and just enjoy perusing Lisbon looking for them. Exhausting city to walk around in and imo it’s not the prettiest city but the history and learning opportunities are excellent of course. Lisbon is also nice because a lot of the attractions outside the city proper are grouped together nicely and very straightforward to get to by public trans. as said above, Sintra is a must. Easy to get to by train if you wanna spare the drive and you can basically pick and choose the attractions you like and have time for since they’re all in a ring accessible by bus. I’d put my vote for the Quinta da Regaleira. I went in summer but it was one of the most picturesque properties I’ve seen. lastly, the Jeronimo’s monastery is also in the “most picturesque” running. A good day trip because a bunch of other attractions are very close to it.
Next stop for me is Argentina! I’m really looking forward to visit Buenos Aires, exploring the tango scene, and try steak and Malbec. Patagonia is also on my list for its landscapesI’d love to do some hiking and soak in the natural beauty. I’ve been checking out some ideas here Argentina Private Tours & Local Tour Guides and it’s got plenty of inspiration for places to visit and things to do.
planning a trip to Ireland in September with my wife haven't ever taken an international flight before does anyone have thoughts on American vs united vs delta specifically for a long flight like this? American is cheapest/shortest flight time
I do United when I can bc it’s easier for me to use credit card points with them, but flight experience wise, they’re all pretty much the same. If it’s a nonstop flight, I’d say go with whoever’s cheaper (taking into account what’s included or if you need to pay fees for things like checked luggage). If you have any layovers, it’s usually recommended that you don’t have a layover that’s under 2 hours in case of flight delays.
Agreed ^ Also, don't rule out booking separate one way flights from your home airport to another airport. That can sometimes be cheaper than just searching a round trip flight.
our airbnb says it's near hillsboro/12 south/belmont if that helps but i'll have my car and i can drive wherever my wife and i will get there monday night and a friend is flying out to meet us tuesday, seeing the wonder years in pelham on wednesday, then we'll have thursday/friday to do whatever
got my flight from houston to atlanta for 47$ round trip through spirit yesterday. flying out for the day on the saturday before memorial day weekend. renting a car and heading back to the tail of the dragon for a much needed scenic drive.
Try to go to a show at the Ryman if you’ve never been. Paul Simon is there next week which would be a great one to catch, though probably a little pricey.
Ah, okay. You're near a ton of things. People will tell you Hattie B's, but it's honestly not my favorite. But also, Nashville hot chicken is a thing so you probably want to find a place. Party Fowl I actually enjoyed more, but again, it doesn't feel all that authentic anymore. I really enjoy Redheaded Stranger over in East Nashville. Donut Distillery is pretty fun, they do donut and cocktail pairings. Both of these are also near a really cool record shop, Grimey's. East Nashville is loaded with lots of cool restaurants that I've never been able to try, so probably a decent place to find new things all around. For a smidge more pricy option, I loved Oak Steakhouse. Their crispy Brussels sprouts are some of the best veggies I've ever had at a restaurant. Broadway is kind of my nightmare now, and I imagine yours too, but I did have some very fond memories of visiting The Stage back in the day for live cover bands. I do go to Assembly Hall for food any time I'm in town for a concert/event, lots of tasty options scattered around this place. Another similar food hall situation is L&L Market, which got TikTok famous for the wine bar with a cheese plate conveyor belt, haha. A lot of times when I'm in Nashville, I'm at the food whims of other people. I've eaten at Biscuit Love (not worth the wait in line), The Pub (pretty decent), and Milk & Honey in the Gulch. Five Daughters is in the Gulch (and L&L) and is pretty decent for breakfast pastries. Edley's Bar-B-Que (right down the road from Reese Witherspoon's restaurant) was pretty good when I went a few years back. Geodis Park is a lovely soccer specific stadium. Looks like you'd miss the only game option, though. As for what else to do, uh, I'm usually there for concerts or sports. I've gone to the Parthenon Park once. Ran down Music Row during a marathon. Country Music Hall of Fame is supposed to be really good.
If you're up for a little bit of a drive, Burgess Falls State Park, and more specifically doing a kayak tour (I do this once a summer on my own kayak) is 100% my recommendation. Rock Island State Park is also really lovely. I've never been to Cummins Falls State Park, but also a place you can go swim.
I will second Red Headed Stranger. Also my favorite pizza in town is Dicey’s pizza tavern or 312 pizza, and for burgers I’m a big fan of Cledis Burgers and Beer Garden. Jack Browns and Hopdaddy are also good choices. Another texmex type place I’ve really liked is Pancho and Lefty’s.
