I was just coming here to post this. It is one of the most effective scenes ever. It takes an extra beat after you expect something to happen, only to walk by so casually, that makes your skin crawl.

Signs was the first movie we watched with our new surround sound home theater. I made my parents turn it off after the birthday scene lol.

It is such a perfectly constructed movie. People love to bring up the water issue, but it is supposed to be fantastical because it is a story about faith and everything happening for a reason.

Shyamalan's early run (most people would stop at Signs but I would gladly go to The Happening) is some of the best mainstream filmmaking of the century. He is constantly trying new ideas and is not afraid to be criticized by cynics.

The thing about Signs is that it’s also really funny.

Shyamalan is one who I don’t really care about the reviews for at this point. Good or bad, it’s always interesting.

Yes, his movies are always interesting, but he somehow gets normally average to great actors to perform beyond terribly. I was a huge fan of his early on, and some of his later films have shown flashes of brilliance, but I don't understand how some of the lines got delivered in the way they did, and he said 'perfect - exactly how I intended it to be performed'.

I will definitely see this though as the premise is interesting and hopefully it'll at least feel a little fresh, but I expect some woefully delivered dialogue.

I heard that the Watchers suffered similar issues (I'll catch that on streaming at some point).

Good or bad I will always admire M Night for taking big fucking swings with every film he does plus he definitely got the best performance of Dave Bautista's career so far in Knock At The Cabin but I am looking forward to watching Trap in the cinema.

My kid (10) loves M Night. He's seen The Sixth Sense, Signs, Old, and The Visit. He wants to watch Unbreakable but I don't know if he will like it. I might show him The Village next.
