For me it was Glassjaw playing “Worship & Tribute” in full. I think it was in 2022? They tried to reschedule the first show after “someone got sick” to happen before the second show (which I was going to), which pushed the second show back to like a 10pm start, before finally admitting one of the guys caught COVID and cancelling. EDIT: also, Yellowcard with Over It at Slim’s in 2006. They bailed for some industry thing. Didn’t tell anyone until 1pm the day of the show - including Over It and the other openers, who were informed the show was cancelled by the venue manager. A bunch of us were already lined up for the show and found out from him, too.
I had tickets to see Counting Crows and Matchbox Twenty co-headline in 2017, and the day of the show a sinkhole opened up in the loading dock of the Shoreline Amphitheater so they couldn’t load in. They rescheduled for a couple days later, but Counting Crows couldn’t make the new date. I was a little bummed, but Matchbox Twenty is one of my all-time favorite bands and it was my first time seeing them, and they played a 37 song set to make up for it including almost all of “Yourself or Someone Like You”. I was in heaven lol
Around 2004 I was really into SR-71 and Mitch Allen announced he was playing a solo show in Poughkeepsie. I bought tickets and the show ended up getting cancelled the week of. I assume low sales but I never found out the exact reason. And the last time Doug Loves Movies was supposed to be in Orlando back in 2024 was cancelled the day before. Still hoping he comes back eventually. Pretty sure all shows I had tickets for during Covid were eventually rescheduled.
Waterparks keeping up the tradition of having support that is wildly better than them or names you've literally never heard of with no in between.
Easy. Day one of the first WWWY Festival. Got to the gate just when they announced it was canceled. The other one was Story Of The Year in Beijing. I was on my honeymoon and they were supposed to play there. I was getting dressed to go and then found out they had an issue with their visaa and it wasn't happening. Sucked really bad since I wasn't having much fun in China.
That was the crazy wind storm WWWY, yeah? I remember all of the bands scrambling to play makeup shows in really odd venues.
Yeah, that day was hectic. I walked back to the hotel and there were little rocks flying in the air like bullets. It was crazy.
In 2020 right before Covid started I planned several big trips. Had tickets to see bright eyes reunion in Japan and MCR also in Japan only a few days apart as part of a big trip. If that wasn’t enough I had tickets to see King Krule in Amsterdam and Big Thief in France also within the same week as part of a big Europe trip. Was very very very depressed.
Spoiler: They're both still great live! I could care less about the Aquabats at this point but... Awesome seeing Barstool Preachers on something like this.
