Also sheds are never gonna have a full schedule of slam dunk ticket sales shows, otherwise they'd only do like 4 shows a year. They need the 311, Goo Goo Dolls, Train tours and what not which can get people in the door to pay for parking and booze (no slight to those bands but they just seem like the kind of acts that perpetually are undersold though I think Goo Goo Dolls have seen an uptick in the last few years).
Yes the shows become packed once the venue drops the prices in half and the scalpers let tickets go for single digit dollar amounts lol

Numbers are numbers. Especially in the case of those scalped tickets, it's still a net positive regardless for the venue and the bands whether they sell it or not. And as many people have said in here already, even if the venue is giving discounted tickets or part of the $30 all in tickets they do, they're still expecting alcohol sales to more than make up for that. The last Live Nation show I went to one of the first things one of the staff said to me after I entered the venue was "do you need a wristband for alcohol?". They know what they're doing i think lol.
O for sure….its just that these market manipulations by the ticketing companies makes me irrationally mad and i feel bad for fans who get suckered into it and also for myself for the times i get pulled in lol
I saw Death Cab with Japanese Breakfast last night and the lawn was empty while the shed itself wasn’t totally sold out. I got my comped Lawn ticket upgraded, and I think a bunch of others did too. It was also pouring rain FWIW, which might have discouraged lawn people from staying. The insides of these sheds are 4-7k people I imagine, and not many places have venues that large. Filling the inside of a shed with some soft lawn sales is a pretty solid outing that meets that level of demand. Only so many artists can actually sell the 10-25k tickets it takes to pack a lawn. DC is actually weird in having a 6k GA venue AND two sheds within 1-2 hours of town
What exactly is the appeal of the lawn seats at some of these bigger venues at this point? Maybe it's just my local ampitheater but the way the lawn is set-up... You're literally watching on a screen because you can't see the stage. Feels like whatever the cost is it's straight-up not worth the money for those tickets. I would imagine that would hinder a lot of those sales unless it's an impulsive, days before decision... Especially considering the increasing concern around weather.
I think lawn used to be like $20 which might have been worth it for some people. But now it’s probably $50-60 plus the cost of parking so I imagine if it’s between that and not going people are just opting not to go.
Been a bit since I've been to the Tinley Park one, but I recall the lawn being sloped enough that you can get an okay view of the stage pretty easily. Same with Milwaukee. Maybe not $60+ ticket good, but fine if tickets are cheap or if you're mostly going to the show with friends to socialize anyway. Northerly Island is so much worse and the lawn is only worth it if you're at the very front.
It's this. Lawn was great for friends and family who wanted to go and enjoy the live music experience without having to pay top dollar. Lawn was geared more for the social aspect. In my experience, it was for large groups of friends. For bands that I'm diehard of, I opt for better seats/GA. But these price points for lawn shows have just made people skip out.
Only time I went to a show and sat on the lawn was Blinks reunion tour with Weezer in 2009. Was honestly a complete waste of time since you can’t see anything and the worst casual fans sit in the lawn and just talk the entire time. Not worth it at all in my opinion.
Yeah 20 dollar lawn seats ruled. Sit down, get a beer, probably with 3-4 friends, get some cool merch of a band I like, watch a great band played (like when I saw the cure in Atlanta). Maybe try to sneak down closer if you’re lucky. It was a blast. But I wouldn’t do that for 60-70 dollars
I got a $25 lawn ticket for the Offspring/Jimmy/NFG tour, went for the openers, stayed for a few Offsprings songs and bounced. It was great rather than pay $150+ for a good seat.
Yeah lawn is only worth it if the tickets are cheap. I remember my first real concert was Green Day in 2010 and I did lawn, but tickets were only $20. I also did lawn when I saw The Cure in 2023, but lawn tickets were $35. But I was also desperate to see them, so I was fine sitting anywhere lol
It's good for people with kids and I know people also like doing picnics, none of the venues near me have lawn seats so can't speak from experience
Speaking of sheds....does LA not have a replacement for the one in Irvine that was closed a few years back? Seems like all the outdoor tours are hitting Hollywood Bowl or playing one of the arenas which must be a bit of a logistical nightmare production wise.
I fully get it for the lower prices. But they've kicked up quite a bit recently... And my local venue added seats over 50% of the lawn a few years back. So you really can't see anything from the GA lawn section. Seems mostly unique to this venue though... I definitely get the "hanging with friends" vibe too. But none of my friends are ever willing to do that because you can barely see the stage at the place I'm talking about. LOL Didn't think about this aspect and it shook loose a memory of me at a Beach Boys concert having the time of my life. Really good point!
Kind of. There’s a new-ish outdoor GA venue in Irvine named Great Park Live. They also opened a new 10,000 cap amphitheater in Long Beach that’s supposed to be pretty similar. But I’ve yet to go. I’ve heard it’s kind of a shitshow rn, so I’m hesitant to check it out
Yeah I think with the advent of smartphones and there being a lot of cheaper alternatives to hang out with people, doesn't make sense for each person to pay $70 to stand on grass and hear a band they aren't really interested in play in the distance.
