I dont have a $ answer but id love to be privy to all the math that goes into it - band costs, venue costs, ticketing services, promotors etc. With all that information, i could then give you a number.. but in the end, we all know in our guts that the cost of everything, is outpacing wages. Im spending more proportionally every year, while the value remains the same or even decreases. Its complicated i know and im out of my depth to offer a solution, but impacted enough to feel frustrated. And i know the bands are making less too... Someone somewhere is doing alright though or it would have changed a long time ago
If you haven’t seen this already, Los Campesinos provided a full breakdown on finances of their recent tour here. Not the same as Olivia Rodrigo doing multiple nights at arenas obviously but definitely interesting (and depressing) from a gross to net earnings standpoint. Los Campesinos! Break Down What It Actually Costs To Tour North America
This definitely puts in perspective how especially hard it is for mid sized bands to tour internationally. All of the added expenses for visas, flights, etc really adds up.
Being As An Ocean/Vanna/lowheaven dates incoming. Underground Music Cafe in Minneapolis just announced for July 17th.
This is the a question of capitalism as a whole, not just the livenation monopoly. But the answer lays in understanding surplus labor value. When record breaking profits occur and wages for actual workers/performers isn’t rising at the same rate, it indicates that a parasite (bosses, shareholders) is taking a larger share of the value someone else’s labor produced. People understand that inflation happens and concerts are entertainment. That’s not the issue here. A monopoly is artificially jacking up prices to the detriment of many for the benefit of a few.
I can't comment on the distribution of funds within the industry as I've never seen a breakout. It seems like as long as shows are able to sell and be successful at these prices there's no motivation to charge less until people just stop showing up.
This is exactly why I said it’s a capitalism issue, not just a livenation issue. They have no incentive to not chase endless profits. It’s not unlike how capitalism drives climate change and the extinction of various species. It’s not that the capitalist hates the environment or animals (or in this case, concert attendees). It’s just that their interests do not directly align with the capitalist’s easiest path to attaining more capital. If you see capitalism as a naturally occurring phenomenon, you can brush all this off as the “way things are”. It’s only when you consider alternative economic systems and how they value things like nature, art, music, leisure, etc that you start to see wage theft and price gouging as conscious choices that can be avoided
Unreal. Canal Club would be so fun, but I just snagged it for Greensboro. Edit: Holy shit is this Hangar 1819 spot small as fuck. This is going to be nuts.
so jealous of the underoath routing. really wish there was anything midwest even if it didn’t really make sense to book.
AEG just announced $30 all-in tickets to pretty much every single Cleveland concert between now and October - including some big tours. This comes just a few weeks after they ran a huge buy 2 for the price of 1 sale.
This line-up has a lot of great and a lot of "meh." Not sure it'll be enough to get me all the way out to Worcester but... Four Year Strong, Silverstein, Haywire, Origami Angel, One Step Closer, and Spaced on the same bill is rad as hell!
Lowkey a little upset the UO tour isn’t rolling through Tampa but I’ve managed to see all three of their “secret” shows at our local 300 cap so I guess I can’t be too salty.
