Meanwhile MIA went on a rant yesterday at the kid cudi date about there being a lot of illegals at the show, and not being able to have a voice right now being a republican, then got booed off stage, so I’d imagine she won’t be on the tour for too much longer.
Isnt she from the UK? EDIT. Just read she and her family are refugees from Sri Lanka. Wtf is wrong with her
shes become my most difficult attempt at "separate the art from the artist". ive been hyped for this tour (never seen cudi and always wanted to, loved mia when she was at riot previously, and Big Boi from outkast opening, certified legend) and had been contemplating if i would watch her, but so far every report out of the first few dates of the tour have been shes been terrible every night so far, even without the bad takes... so might be a 'everyone loves a trainwreck' type viewing..
I can’t imagine she will end up on the tour too much longer now that this is out there and she got booed off. Happens another time or two and she will be off.
On one hand I want to say: “Fuck yeah Cudi!” But on the other hand I’m just thinking you knew this woman was like this, why even chance it? I am positive like many of us he thought her early work was great (his Paper Planes freestyle was huge) and he probably was hyped to try to get to work her but they shouldn’t have even risked it. Not that he has all the say in who they take on the road. I’m glad he quickly stood up and had her removed. After all this is the guy who’s debuted piece of art was a FUCK ICE! painting. I honestly has no idea about how she was currently, when those Cudi paintings came out my buddy said to me how weird it was that he was bringing her on the road and I did some digging on it. Again, major respect for him taking swift action and being on the right side of things but he should’ve knew better.
Hoping Hayley adds another date for The Hollywood Bowl because this is crazy. It was over 100k when I got in at 10AM
she started going down the deep end into conspiracies and then she lost custody of her kid because of it and she completely lost her mind
Yeah she notoriously got really anti-vax during Covid and then it got worse from there. Didn’t know she lost custody of her kid though. That’s really sad
I don't know what's going on with live music and tours, but I'm going to be a snob about it and say that the super, duper huge pop show tours are sort of poisoning the whole well, pricing wise, and fan wise. Bruno mars just came through and it was sold out to tens of thousands of drunk college kids who spent hundreds of dollars and most probably claim 'they looooove live music' yet are skipping every $30 / $40 show that rolls through because it's not top of the chart, party pop and they probably go see 2 to 3 shows a year. Those few shows make a killing and then everyone is chasing that financial high. More people need to put their money where their mouth is, get on songkick or whatever you use to tell you about bands playing, and go to more shows, with more variety, at more venues and normalize the standard touring cycle again. Just find a show on a Friday on a Monday, listen to the artist and then go check them out. It really bums me out to see 1) what shows are selling out, and 2) how the crowds behave at those. Disclosure just came through and man, the drunks were out in full force causing a scene after that. That's why I like metal shows the best. Better behaved crowds, better sense of community and grass roots support. I don't know. I'm all over the place with this one. Rambling and ranting with no point for sure...
part of the problem is those $40 shows are becoming $60 and $70 shows because of the monopoly livenation has on the industry, and people going to those big shows are also being gouged because live nation was like oh you don't have $500 for tickets go put them on installment plans you'll get the money after being in debt for a little bit not saying that there isn't also an issue of people not knowing how to behave and be respectful, but that's not why the industry is becoming a bubble
True, I was rambling on separate points as I often tend to do. It's always a mixed bag when I see that tours aren't doing well. Some oversell / undersell or do just as poor as expected. Like the $30 live nation for me was 50% buttrock... breaking benjamin, staind, godsmack, five finger death punch LOL
