Speaking of shows/tours not selling well, Godsmack’s summer tour doesn’t look like it’s doing hot? Out of curiosity, I looked at tickets for the Anaheim show because I was thinking about going just to check out STP and the show is barely even a quarter sold. I looked at some other dates and it seems like they’re selling the same. I know the show isn’t until September, but I was kind of surprised to see so many unclaimed seats still open. Curious to see how it does once the date gets closer
https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/s/iHxEaUAaCM Yeah it's bad out there, I get it I don't love booking tickets months in advance if it won't sell out immediately
I mean Godsmack's kind of entered into nu metal nostalgia territory at this point, and them touring with only half of the classic lineup now doesn't help. I'm sure they know their draw and to expect a lot of week of/day of purchases.
I also think it's hard for their fans to get hyped about Godsmack when they're not putting out any more music. That final album is a few years old now. Meanwhile, August Burns Red and The Amity Affliction just had their NYC date downgraded and you think it'd be a sure seller.
There was a whole article in the guardian about this very issue. If you’re not the biggest thing ever, it’s basically a money loser to tour
That's so depressing. Also why it's important to go to those $50-60 ticketed tours in theaters to support those acts.
The Livenation $30 deal going on right now has been really nice. Feels good to be able to afford bigger shows again for a minute.
I said this last year, but it's gotten to a point where I wait until day of and snag a ticket close to last minute. It kinda messes up planning because you really have to commit, but 75% of the time it pays off in getting a ticket at lower than cost. Unless it's a top 10 band for me, shows are getting fewer and far between for me.
Two years ago, TAA headlined that same venue in NYC and now they can’t even fill it on a new album cycle with ABR (also on a new album cycle) and Boundaries supporting (once again, on a new album cycle). Meanwhile in Houston, the ERRA/Currents tour played the same venue this tour did and it was considerably fuller however that was a weekend show. I think there’s a variety of factors at work here, including prices.
Same with Stone Temple Pilots. Their last album was 6 years ago. But also it not being the original singer hurts their draw
Hate to sound like a broken record but there’s no way I’m consistently paying $100 or more for all these shows. It’s not in the budget
I mean this is all shit that we called years ago, this bubble wasn’t sustainable and we knew it would burst. Amity and AbR playing bigger venues is in theory “good idea” but they upping the ticket prices by like 40% after touring constantly is a good example. Wage war here just got downgraded from 2k to 800, they tour constantly and people aren’t gonna keep paying $60-$75 for club shows. Then you look at amp prices and arenas where it cost over $100 consistently to even get in the place. People don’t got it and aren’t gonna continuously spend that amount to see the same bands over and over. Then bands say “this is what it costs to tour.” Well sorta these promoters live nation specifically nickel and dime everyone for everything where they make the most money and leave the bands with the least amount they can. Things are gonna need to change desperately soon.
festivals will forever be the way I afford to see arena acts. debating doing Bonnaroo just to knock out Rufus du sol, Noah Kahan for like $400 total versus a single Noah ticket for like $350.
